Find a freaking QB whisperer who will get the most out of Tannehill.

I wonder if this means Zac Taylor is out too.

Anyone have a list of good potential OC candidates?

Quote:
Head Coach Joe Philbin has announced that offensive coordinator Mike Sherman has been relieved of his duties. Sherman served as Miami’s offensive coordinator for the past two seasons.

“I would like to thank Mike for his contributions to the Miami Dolphins,” Philbin said. “Mike has been a mentor to me throughout my coaching career, dating back to 1979. He is a man of great integrity, dedicated to his family, his team, his players and his profession. On behalf of the entire Miami Dolphins organization I want to wish Mike and his family the very best in the future.”

Ian Rapoport already suggesting Ben McAdoo from GB. Pretty sure that name was suggested on the boards before.

Doesn't appear to have any play calling experience.

Okay, you can't fire him and NOT fire Coyle. He was just as bad at his job as Sherman.

Though, I am super stoked that one of the wicked witches is dead... I'd like Ireland and Coyle to go too please!

I think Ireland is safe though. SADLY.

I'm assuming that's the extent of it. Can't say I'm happy.......it has the feel of Saprano's final year............. a lame duck coach given one more year...............only to go down in flames.

Ross let his pride get in the way.........Philben was supposed to be an offensive guru, but his team is one of the worst. What highly qualified Coordinator is going to want to come here and coach under him?

I'm sure the argument from Coyle was that he had so many new pieces it will take another year for everyone to blossom. Philbin is obviously going to back him.

As far as Ireland goes, that Le Batard story really has me thinking about how Ross basically forced Ireland to ruin relationships to save his job. I bet he gets one more chance to save his skin.

Post Re: Sherman Fired
I like the idea of getting Gary Kubiak. He's a former Texas A&M quarterback and offensive line coach who has worked with Sherman in the past. Perhaps Sherman would recommend him to Philbin? In addition, we all know that (with the exception of this season) the Texans have had a very good offense with a stout ground game the last several years.

I was hoping we would be able to retain Sherman if we made a switch at OC. Perhaps shift him to assistant head coach (we don't have one) and let him manage the offensive line (something he has a ton of experience doing).

I hate to see us breaking up the staff so quickly. But what's done is done. Hopefully we make the right moves and the team improves from it.

Our head coach is already a former Green Bay assistant offensive coordinator.

This may not be over yet. While Philbin is safe there is a lot of chatter that front office changes are coming, and that Ireland isn't necessarily safe. That "tension" issue again.

Rob chudzinski, Gary Kubiak or Hue Jackson. Established OCs and play callers with a good history of vertical passing games and able to make in game adjustments. All of have run offenses that have finished in top 10 at some point.

Just posted in another thread that the name Rick Dennison was suggested. Houston OC last 3 years and fits Philbin ideology.

Don't know enough about the guy.

I wonder if they will stick with the zone blocking scheme? Hopefully this is a step in the right direction. Maybe they can find someone who can get more points out of this offense.

How did the announcement come down? Did a particular person announce it? I think problems were more extensive than Sherman but this was the obvious thing to do that will please the average fan as well as the kool aid sippers.
You gotta wonder if Sherman will land anywhere else , and if so just watch him be successful.

The Miami Herald reports Packers QBs coach Ben McAdoo is the favorite for the Dolphins' offensive coordinator vacancy.
It's something of a natural fit because McAdoo coached with Fins HC Joe Philbin in Green Bay. The offense wouldn't change in Miami, but the relevancy of the run game could, as McAdoo witnessed what the Packers were able to accomplish with a ground-oriented offense for much of 2013, with Aaron Rodgers out of commission. McAdoo's contract has expired in Green Bay, so he's a free agent.

EXACTLY!

Next year will be a waste.

This staff is dysfunctional, and needs to be disbanded. All Ross has done is postpone the inevitable.

It's Mr. Ross' team........he can do with it what he wants..........but I for one have had enough. There's no reason to believe this team will be challenging for a playoff spot next year...........they'll likely go from mediocre to just down right bad.

Anyway, my New Year's resolution is to focus my attention on positive endeavors. Maybe the bug will hit me during preseason, but at least for the interim.......I'm out.

Good fortunes to the Phinfever Family in the New Year.

It's times like this I envy the ability of bandwagon fans to jump teams. I just cant do it.

I grew up in Charlotte, NC but they didn't have the Panthers when I was a kid. I became a Dolphins fan watching them on TV.

When the Panthers were formed, I followed them, but for me it was still 99.9% Dolphins, 0.1% Panthers.

That was the closest I ever came to going with another team, 0.01% lol. Proud to say I am back to being 100% Dolphins by the way.

Firing only Sherman means Ross is not cleaning house, or he would have done it already. He has a hodge podge staff of his own making. It's like painting over rotten wood.

Q: It has been said that Mike Sherman should be retained because he coached Ryan Tannehill here and at Texas A&M. But maybe Tannehill has learned all he can from Sherman and that it is time to learn from others. If Tannehill can't pick up new tools and schemes, maybe he's not an NFL caliber quarterback after all. What do you think? - Scott, Maryland, MD.

A: I think you bring up some interesting, and valid points. I think changing Tannehill's offensive coordinator, and abandoning the offense Tannehill has known for the past six years is risky. We FINALLY saw growth from Tannehill, who was playing very good up until the final two games of the season. When you change offensive coordinators, and offenses, there's a learning curve, and I personally don't believe this team can afford that considering everyone's likely on yet another put up, or get out season. I'm fundamentally opposed to changing offensive coordinators as an act of desperation. I've NEVER seen it work on any team I've covered (FSU, UM, Dolphins). All it does is create confusion and encourage panic. Also, who said Philbin can lure a better offensive coordinator than Sherman considering he's presently on the hot seat? With that said, I'm not a big fan of Sherman, but I don't think all of the offense's issues were his fault. The Dolphins didn't have a good offensive line, which handcuffed his offense. The running backs were pedestrian in a lot of aspects, which handcuffed his offense. The team lacked a fullback and a blocking tight end, which handcuffed his offense. Ryan Tannehill couldn't connect on the deep ball to a wide open Mike Wallace on more than a dozen potential big plays, which handcuffed his offense. Now, could Sherman have been more creative, inventive, less rigid? Absolutely! But who says he can't learn from his mistakes and change his approach in 2014? If Philbin and his staff have one more season to get the job done I'd personally rather them take a "we're all in approach." And the best way to do that is by keeping things consistent for Tannehill and hoping the light bulb comes on, and stays bright.

Sparano went 4-9 before being fired that year.

I'm thinking 3-13 next season since the drama involves Ireland as well.

What kind of guy will want to be the OC for the Dolphins right now?

Biggest reason for a frontline OC to take the job is if Philbin gets canned midseason, he'd be a prime candidate to be interim HC, and show what he can do to turn our boys around.

It won't be this year. It would be a nice addition to his resume if he went to Miami as OC and was the guy who got the offense going. Even better if he was the guy who got the QB to take a big step. He could then say he's developed 2 QBs (he did get the best out of Schaub) and that would be attractive for the 2015 season.

Future Interim HC Kubiak... :headscratch

I doubt Philbin reaches out to anyone capable of taking over...

Contrary, if he wants to keep his job he'll get the right man to turn it around. From what I see Kubiak is the best choice. Might even make the run game legit.
