:haha Don't let the door hit you in the butt pal.

Quote:
During a meeting with coach Joe Phibin, GM Dennis Hickey and CEO Dawn Apante, Jonathan Martin's representation conveyed to the Dolphins that Martin isn't comfortable returning to Miami.
Per CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, Martin's agents told the Dolphins that a return to the team "wouldn't work." Martin still wants to play in the NFL in 2014, but not in Miami. In the meeting at the Combine, Hickey reportedly did all the talking while Philbin was "staring daggers across the room." Philbin reportedly blames Martin's reps for the Martin-Richie Incognito fiasco reaching the level it has. The Dolphins are in the market for two starting tackles and two guards.

It's a good thing I was sitting down for that one.

Maybe we should make him come in and face his teammates.

Tell him he's under contract and has to come to weekly meetings to get his paycheck but otherwise he's on the disabled list and can't play.

No doubt, I would bust his chops till he goes back to Wells with another complaint.

I love that Philbin was reportedly staring daggers at Martin and his team.

A little more info on it all:

PFT wrote:
Before Martin can play for anyone other than the Dolphins, the Dolphins have to trade him or waive him. And while owner Stephen Ross has said that he doesn’t expect either Martin or guard Richie Incognito to return to the team in 2014, the Dolphins have a much better chance of getting trade value for Martin if other teams believe that the Dolphins keeping Martin is a viable alternative.

For that reason, the Dolphins previously had begun to leak the idea that Martin could return. Now, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that, during a meeting at the Scouting Combine with Martin’s agents, the Dolphins expressed an interest in having Martin return. Martin’s camp reportedly declined.

La Canfora adds that, during the meeting, coach Joe Philbin blamed Martin’s agents for causing the controversy to reach the boiling point it has occupied, on multiple occasions.

This has to be the least exciting "BREAKING NEWS!!!" story ever. In the history of history.

Agent Rick Smith has sharply disputed La Canfora’s report. “We have no idea where you got your information, but you weren’t even close,” Smith told La Canfora. “We’d appreciate it if everyone backed off and allowed the process to happen organically.”

Sure after they way Martin's team has handled the whole situation that seems like a reasonable request.

Omar Kelly ✔ @OmarKelly

Dolphins owner Steve Ross said he still hasn't talked to Jonathan Martin. Says "the lawyers" are trying to arrange it. Very telling.

Dolphins owner Steve Ross said he feels that Jonathan Martin wants to talk to him just as much as he wants to talk to Martin.

darn lawyers.....

Martin will force Miami to release him by threatening a lawsuit. I am so ready for this to be over.

If it is true that Martin doesn't want to play for the team. The Dolphins need to get it in his words before they release or trade him. People tend to forget the fact that Martin wasn't playing well before he left the team. The dolphins need to cover their butt as much as possible if they do trade/release him.

Honestly, after last season, I don't think the Dolphins want the media microscope that comes with Michael Sam.

Hopefully Martin plays nice with the Dolphins in order to get the trade that he wants. They have to create an interest between the two parties in order to trade him for better value.

Barry Jackson wrote:
Jonathan Martin, who wants to move on from Miami, is hoping the Dolphins trade him (with the 49ers and Colts among those holding appeal to him) instead of releasing him so that he can make the $825,000 and $1.04 million he’s due in the next two non-guaranteed seasons, as opposed to the $570,000 league minimum. The Dolphins have said it’s doubtful he will return and are trying to trade him.

If it were my decision, I'd work with him to find a trade that benefits both parties. If you cannot find a reasonable trade partner, and teams are holding out to see if he gets cut, then I'd force him to report. If a player holds out and refuses to report, they typically get fined or not paid. I'd play hardball with the kid.

What you cannot do is give him what he wants, which is flat out cut him. Losing a 2nd round pick two years into his deal without receiving anything in return would be devastating. It would also set a terrible prescedent in which young players on struggling teams could simply hold out or make excuses in order to get released from their respective team in hopes of getting signed by a better team.

Let me put it this way, what if Tannehill was the player that walked out mid-season? What if he left and nobody was willing to give us anything more than a 5th round pick for him? Would we be forced to trade him? Would we be forced to cut him? What would we do?

Andrew Luck said he would 100 percent be in favor of the Colts acquiring Dolphins OT Jonathan Martin.
"I’d say I love Jon, we had a great time at Stanford together, still stay in touch with him regularly and I think he’s a great man," Luck said. The Stanford connection is a deep one in Indianapolis. In addition to Luck, OC Pep Hamilton, WR Griff Whalen and TE Coby Fleener all were part of the Cardinal with Martin. It doesn't hurt that the Colts are in serious need of offensive line help.

He's not a fit on this team. We already have trouble getting Dion Jordan on the field despite what he shows when he is on it, why would we draft another DE?
