Let's hold off before saying neither Paul Soliai nor Randy Starks will be back. I still think the Dolphins told them to shop around and see what their pricetag is. This happened with Soliai a couple of year ago. We'll see. As GM, I re-invest in my own good players before investing in other teams' castoffs.

Personally, I would love to see Soliai come back.

I read yesterday Atlanta was aggressively pursuing Soliai.

Haven't heard anything on Starks.

Seattle is pursuing Starks.

I like Soliai, but that's a lot of money to pay a "part time" player. I say "part time" because he comes out in passing downs. Starks showed signs of wearing down in 2012, but I didnt' notice that last year.

Barry Jackson thinks Soliai is done in Miami:

Quote:
### Paul Soliai is down to three teams and the Dolphins are not one of them. Soliai is aware he likely won’t be signing here, barring something unexpected. (And nothing can be ruled out in free agency, especially because Soliai likes it here.) But it doesn't look good for Miami. The Dolphins and Soliai have had conversations in recent days but continue to have a different view of his value, especially with regard to guaranteed money. The Falcons are among teams reportedly in pursuit...

The Dolphins are considering several defensive tackles to replace Soliai and Starks, with Houston's Earl Mitchell among those on Miami's radar. Jason Hatcher, Linval Joseph, Henry Melton and Arthur Jones are also available.

Jared Odrick played 874 snaps for the Dolphins, Starks played 742. Soliai came in at 526, so you're right Dave, he is more of a part time player.

That being said, I hope the plan is to play Odrick full time at tackle, get a run stuffer and slide Vernon inside on passing downs so that Jordan can rush from the end and we can get our three best pass rushers on the field at the same time along with Odrick.

Sounds like a plan to me.

I like that idea for sure. Can Odrick handle being The Guy in that situation? Or do you think Miami will draft a DL early to share time with him?

He played a lot of snaps last year.. I think he'll be ok.

Soliai is going to get big money from a 3-4 team... since we're running mostly 4-3 (as far as I understand), I can see why we're not willing to dish out the big bucks.

Mike Nolan is aggressively pursuing Paul Solai according to my Falcons friends. Wants to use more 3-4 in Atlanta and Paul is among the best NTs.

Soliai is headed to Atlanta to sign with them.

My hope is they can re-sign starks. Odrick is good inside but it would be a luxury to have Starks there as well. Both have decent pass rush skills from inside.

Mitchell & Oddrick on the inside works for me. Young and cheap. Depth can be attained via draft (late rounds)

Yup, Odrick gets paid next year. Some journalist think AJ Francis has some upside too.

At least they're done with Solai. Seeing as he is on the wrong side of 30 and sucked last year, I think it's best if they're done with Starks too.

People keep bringing up that Soliai is on the wrong side of 30 and don't mention Starks... but they are the same age. Actually, Starks is older than Soliai by 16 days....

You keep saying that, but anyone watching the games and paying specific attention to the LB's can clearly see Soliai was not the problem.

If the DT market dries up I'd actually be okay with Miami giving Starks a contract similar to Mitchell. The guy can still play at a high level. Doesn't seem that he would really want to come back to Miami though.

I really would like to get a young defensive tackle on the roster. Even if it's a 4th round guy like Caraun Reid or Zach Kerr.

Sounds like they are nearing a deal (Miami and Starks).

The Dolphins and Starks are close to an agreement that would keep Starks around at a salary of about $6 million a year, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS.
