From Profootballtalk.com

The Dolphins are reportedly slated to meet with an experienced starting cornerback who’s trying to bounce back after a tough 2013 season.

According to Albert Breer of NFL Network, Miami will host former Rams corner Cortland Finnegan on Friday.

Just two years ago, Finnegan was regarded as one of the best free agents in the Class of 2012, and he signed a lucrative deal with St. Louis. However, he was limited to just seven games last season because of an injured thigh and a broken orbital bone, and the Rams released him last week.

Long known for his toughness and feistiness, the 30-year-old Finnegan has notched 601 tackles and 18 interceptions. If he could recapture his best form, the 5-foot-10, 179-pound cornerback would strengthen any defense. The Dolphins, it appears, are the first to give him a longer look.

He could be a nice pick at a bargain price as he tries to rebuild his career coming off a tough season. He definitely a nasty little SOB at CB.

At the very least, he could be stiff competition for Jamar Taylor and make Taylor earn the starting job.

Finnegan doesn't strike me as a Philbin guy unless he has calmed down over the years.

When healthy, Finnegan is pesky and all over the receiver like Grimes.

No!

That guy is a dirty player! Did we learn nothing from having Incognito around?

Always liked him. Takes some crazy penalties but has a hard nose attitude ,,, just short of being a bully i guess.

He is a feisty player, not dirty. The guy plays the game rough. Definitely not in the same league has Incognito. Might get a little over zealous at times too. This team NEEDS attitude (the good hard nosed kind). Delmas the safety and a guy like Finnegan would be flying all over the place.

Its not even close to comparable man. Cortland is ultra competitive at everything his does. He talks A LOT of noise on the field but hes chill off it. He said his favorite guy to play against is Steve Smith because once he gets inside his head then Smith's game is off & he doesn't play well.

I'd say he was a great player a couple years ago but now he has to talk his way out of the hole he created. & if he doesn't appear to genuinely want to turn things around then he won't get the chance to play here. Simple as that.

What if he gets a one year/prove it deal? Would you be cool with that, Rodney?

Finnegan is a punk who plays dirty to get inside his opponents head.

I think you are taking this a bit overboard and as ultra careful as the Dolphins organization is now and the way Philbin is, I can assure you they won't bring in a dirty player. I am telling you Cortland plays intense and he is a very physical cornerback that will get into your face.

Just my opinion.

This organization is way to classy to sign a dirty player or a punk.

Yea, he's probably regularly voted one of the top dirtiest players for no reason at all.

FA evaluation 101:

If he was visiting the pats or jets he would be the dirtiest player and we wouldnt want him..

But hes not, hes visiting us, so hes just physical and plays with attitude...

:hypnotize: :hypnotize:

Seriously tho, he would be a good addition opposite Grimes IMO. Could care less about the dirty stuff, Ritchie never bothered me with that. Its the stuff I didnt know, like he is basically a big kid that loves to party and encourages rookies to go with him..

In a different thread, I was all against his signing, mainly because I knew he was really bad last year, but also because of his reputation. Now, I'm not so sure it's a bad idea, because it turns out a big part of why he was so bad last year was because of leg injuries that ended up landing him on IR. Can he bounce back like Grimes did? Maybe, or maybe he's just 29 and his best is behind him. As for the attitude, so long as he's not racking up stupid 15 yard penalties and keeps it cool off the field, I don't really mind. I like fire in a player, just not stupidity. Picking a fight with Andre the Giant is more stupid than fire.

I like that. Theres a difference in trouble makers. No drug, abuse, or legal problems. Just wants to fight on the field

Miami cant afford to bring in a dirty player like finnegan given the martin scandal. Id take cromartie and his 400 kids over finnagan.

Finnegan can be an butt on the field. That said, I have never heard anything negative about Finnegan OFF the field or in the locker room, unlike Suh or Incognito.

Until this past season, Finnegan has been one of the better cornerbacks in the league, and relatively healthy until this past year when he did get hurt and his play declined because of it.

IF the Dolphins bring him on on a team friendly contract, I ain't going to be mad. IF they don't, I'm still fine with it.

Why are Dolphin fans being negative on this idea? I say kick the tires of anyone that can step on the field and help this team win. Don't you people believe that after all the scandal in the off season that they will root out any attitude or detriment to this team before signing someone????

I agree with Tony, when this guy is healthy he is an experienced starting caliber corner and he may not be a top 5 anymore, but experience and tenacity on the field is a good thing in my book.

Grimes came back from a serious Achilles injury and that was a great roll of the dice, so if Finnegan is 100% I say try it (IF the salary is friendly and he checks out.)

The Dolphins are finalizing a 2-year deal with CB Cortland Finnegan, per source.

I'm sure he can be dirty even when hobbled. He is foremost a dirty player.

Let's just say I hope our other young CBs can surpass the veteran.

You did not answer my question.

Do you prefer that he get cut in the preseason or that he is able to return to his previous level of play in which he was considered one of the top corners in the NFL?

My question is why are the only people making this an issue are message board people who have probably never played football? Literally nobody else is worrying about him being dirty

So he has been voted near the top of the dirtiest player list multiple times for no reason at all?

you haven't shown us any examples yet. I mean Suh's offenses are famous, so i know why he's dirty. Finnegan just trash talks and gets guys off their games.

I agree. This argument is stupid. You keep claiming how "dirty" he is but unlike Suh he hasn't stomped on anyone's face.. So he talks trash, big deal! So what if he's physical? Would you like him better sipping cosmopolitans in a mini skirt? I mean come on, in an age where fans complain that Goodell is turning the NFL into the No Fun League and when someone plays physical it's considered dirty? I love watching him go toe to toe with Andre Johnson whose frame is like twice the size of Finnegan, he's a scrappy SOB. You hate playing against him and love him to death when he's on your team.
