The Dolphins have added another piece to their rebuilding offensive line.

Jason Fox, an offensive tackle previously with the Lions, has signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins,

That means he passed his physical, so that's a good thing. Still think this is a depth signing, though.

In 205 snaps, he graded out well as a pass blocker. Only allowed 1 sack and 3 pressures. But his run blocking was inconsistent at best.

Nothing wrong with having solid depth on the offensive line. It is a MUST.

Hopefully he competes for a starting job and surprises. Worst case scenario he's a Nate Garner type.

Rotoworld says he won the starting job in Detroit last year but injury derailed it.

Fox (6-foot-6, 314) won the Lions starting right tackle job out of camp last summer but suffered a groin injury in Week 1 before losing the gig to LaAdrian Waddle. The 26-year-old (in May) is an above-average pass blocker and is now penciled in as Miami's starting right tackle. He'll certainly be part of a camp battle.

I am still concerned about our patchwork Oline, so far we have Pouncey, he is the most solid guy we have, Albert, a talented but oft injured LT, Smith and Fox are both at this point anyway, borderline starters, and still we have another starter spot to fill, so right now we have 2 starters and 3 ?'s on the line, I know this also points to us going heavy on Oline in the draft, lets hope we can get a couple of starters right out of the box in this draft.

WTF is up with abysmal run blocking league wide? It seems north of 90% of NFL OL are graded out negatively in regards to their run blocking skill set.

Could be that with more throwing, there is more pass blocking and more opportunity to build up the pass blocking grade.

I definitely agree. We'd better draft some offensive linemen this month. You can't have too many good linemen.

Finster, welcome to the site!

Learning a little more about the guy has me a little more optimistic about him. Apparently he was an up and coming player who won a starting job, but could never stay healthy long enough to lock down that starting job.

The good news on him is he's young and he had a very good career at the U, winning the starting right tackle job as a true freshman and then eventually taking over at left tackle mid-season and keeping the job for the remainder of his time in Miami. Hopefully bringing him back to South Florida will be good for his health and career.

He seems like he has the tools to be an NFL starter, injuries have just kept him from putting it all together.

Here's to hoping he doesn't become best friends with our new trainer...
:haha
