Post 2014 Draft picks
Round 1- 19th pick- OT Ja'Wuan James, Tennessee

Prepped in Georgia. Enrolled in January 2010 and immediately took ownership of the right tackle position. Started all 49 games of his career (2010-13), setting a school record for career starts by an offensive lineman. Sprained his knee during Senior Bowl practice.

Strengths
Outstanding size, girth and overall body mass. Good hand placement. Can steer and control blockers once he gets his hands on them. Very patient pass protector. Matches up very well vs. size and power (see Alabama). Battle-tested, experienced four-year starter in the SEC. Outstanding personal and football character. Very smart, mature and highly respected.

Weaknesses
Raw footwork. Has a lot of heaviness in body and can improve sustain. Lumbers to the second level and struggles to cut off and adjust to moving targets. Does not roll off the ball with power and generate strength or movement in the run game.

Bottom Line
Big, strong, heavy pass protector with good balance, anchor strength and hand use to handle power and speed. Does not affect the run game the same way and almost appears more destined for the left side in the pros. Has instant-starter potential.

Round 2- 50th (18) pick- Traded to San Diego
Round 2- 57th (25) pick - From San Diego- Traded to San Fran.

Round 2- 63rd (31) pick- From San Fran.- WR Jarvis Landry, LSU

Strengths: Good balance and body control. Savvy route runner -- uses stems and nods and works back to throws. Confident hands-catcher -- snatches throws off his frame. Extends and high points. Attacks throws and wins "50-50" balls. Makes some spectacular, acrobatic grabs. Good concentration and toughness over the middle. Does not go down without a fight after the catch. Willing blocker. Lined up outside and inside. Likes to compete and it shows. Has special-teams experience covering kicks. Team captain.

Weaknesses: Has a fairly lean frame -- could stand to bulk up and get stronger in order to combat the jam. Lacks elite explosiveness and top-end speed -- does not have an extra gear to take the top off. Average line release, acceleration and suddenness. Could struggle to separate vs. quick-twitch cornerbacks. Large percentage of catches are contested. Lacks ideal height and is not a great leaper. Started just 12 career games.

Draft Projection Rounds 2-3

Bottom Line: Polished, quarterback-friendly, sure-handed possession receiver with a flare for the highlight-reel catch. Could be an effective No. 3 option, capable of lining up as a "Z" or slot, working short-to-intermediate and beating zone coverage.

Round 3- 81st (17) pick- OT- Billy Turner, NDSU

Round 4- 125th (25) pick- From San Diego- CB-Walt Aikens, Liberty

Round 5- 155th (15) pick- TE- Arthur Lynch, Georgia

Round 5, 171st (31) -From San Fran.- OLB Jordan Tripp, Montana

Round 6- 190th (14) pick- WR Matt Hazel, Coastal Carolina

Round 7- 234th (19) pick- DE Terrence Fede, Marist

Watch out for Jordan Tripp. I am looking for this kid to challenge for a linebacker spot. Plus he is a special teams guy. Four year starter in college and is a productive backer.

The '13 First Round Draft Class maybe one of the worst in history, particularity the top 10. Only one first rounder, Sheldon Richardson, had an exceptional season. Kenny Vaccaro, Alec Ogletree, Eric Reid, Kyle Long, Desmond Trufant and DeAndre Hopkins also played well. The rest of the group played marginal to poor. Like us, most of the NFL is hoping for much better things from their first round picks.

1 Kansas City Chiefs, Eric Fisher, OT
2 Jacksonville Jaguars, Luke Joeckel, OT
3 Miami Dolphins, Dion Jordan, DE
4 Philadelphia Eagles, Lane Johnson, OT
5 Detroit Lions, Ezekiel Ansah, DE
6 Cleveland Browns, Barkevious Mingo, DE
7 Arizona Cardinals, Jonathan Cooper, G
8 St. Louis Rams, Tavon Austin, WR
9 New York Jets, Dee Milliner, CB
10 Tennessee Titans, Chance Warmack, G
12 Oakland Raiders, D. J. Hayden, CB
13 New York Jets, Sheldon Richardson, DT
14 Carolina Panthers, Star Lotulelei, DT
15 New Orleans Saints, Kenny Vaccaro, S
16 Buffalo Bills, E. J. Manuel, QB
17 Pittsburgh Steelers, Jarvis Jones, LB
18 San Francisco 49ers, Eric Reid, S
19 New York Giants, Justin Pugh, OT
20 Chicago Bears, Kyle Long, G
21 Cincinnati Bengals, Tyler Eifert, TE
22 Atlanta Falcons, Desmond Trufant, CB
23 Minnesota Vikings, Sharrif Floyd, DT
24 Indianapolis Colts, Björn Werner, DE
25 Minnesota Vikings, Xavier Rhodes, CB
26 Green Bay Packers, Datone Jones, DE
27 Houston Texans, DeAndre Hopkins , WR
28 Denver Broncos, Sylvester Williams, DT
29 Minnesota Vikings, Cordarrelle Patterson, WR
30 St. Louis Rams, Alec Ogletree, LB
31 Dallas Cowboys, Travis Frederick, C
32 Baltimore Ravens, Matt Elam, S

You consider Ziggy Ansah's 8 sacks as a rookie to be marginal to poor???

As you've pointed out in the past, stats can be misleading. Six of those sacks came in 3 games (Wash, GB & TB). So he had 2 sacks total in the other 11 games played. Also, he only had 32 total tackles (solo & assist) in those 14 games. He had a monster game against the 3-13 Redskins, and good games against the Bucs & Packers. The rest was marginal to poor. Considering he was the 5th overall pick, I say he had a disappointing season. If you want to say otherwise, that's fine..............the point of my post was the majority of 2013 first round picks have not met expectations.

He also graded out positive against the run, had 22 stops and 25 hurries.

And his expectation was that he was a project...

OK Rich, I'm not going to spend anymore time debating another team's DE, but there's more expectations on the 5th overall pick, than a project.

Ok, then we can debate all of the other players you're wrong about.

Vacarro was middle of the road and graded out with a similar overall grade as Ansah, even though Ansah had 300 less snaps.

Ogletree graded out close to the bottom of the league at his position and was second worst at his position with 19 missed tackles.

Kyle Long was also middle of the road and graded out negatively.

Looks like you're a bit inconsistent in your analysis there.

Interesting, heading into week-4, and the draft has already endtered into the equation....?

Did you guys notice during the Jet's Bear's game, how the Jet's kept fighting back and played with emotion?

The last 2 weeks, we looked really flat and played with little emotion.

The coaches are finding this draft class more useful than last year's draft class. Perhaps Coyle learned a little something from all the complaints from last year, or this class has caught his eye. I think it also helps that we have had injuries at the linebacker position. Whatever the reason, this draft class from the small schools has impressed the fans.

Quote:
### Remember how last year's Dolphins draft class played the fewest snaps of any team in football (867)? Thanks largely to Ja’Wuan James (who has been very solid at right tackle) and Jarvis Landry, the Dolphins’ rookie draft class is on pace to surpass that snap total by early November.

They're at 483 offensive/defensive snaps in four games. Excluding special teams, James has played 302 snaps, Landry 141, Terrence Fede 26, Walt Aikens 10 and Jordan Tripp 4. Fede and Tripp made their regular-season debuts against Oakland after dealing with injuries.

The Dolphins are very pleased with James. He has allowed only one sack, graded out well as a run-blocker and is ranked 20th among all tackles by Pro Football Focus.

James, selected 19th in the draft, already has been a huge upgrade over Tyson Clabo, who allowed 11 sacks last season, and Jonathan Martin, who already has given up three sacks for the 49ers.

"He carries himself like a veteran," center Samson Satele said.

Meanwhile, the Dolphins have given 123 offensive or defensive snaps to five undrafted rookies: defensive tackle Anthony Johnson (who has 50 snaps), running back Damian Williams (31 snaps), running back Orleans Darkwa (13), tight end Gator Hoskins (12) and linebacker Chris McCain (17 snaps).

McCain had a sack in the opener but has played only two defensive snaps since and did not accompany the team to London because of a death in the family.

It is also interesting to note how much of a player Jelani Jenkins has become. They barely played him last year and he wasn't going to get that much time this year until all of the linebacker injuries.

Now they would be idiots to take him off the field. The guy is turning into an excellent OLB.
