Someone else posted player grades showing James as an 80 while everyone else was in the 90s. They didn't bother to provide a source for this.

My source is NFL.com and here is how they grade prospects.

James is rated a 5.7. There is a player taken ahead of him rated 5.9 and multiple players taken after him rated 5.7 or lower. The Patriots took a player graded 5.3. The 49ers took a player rated 5.4.

Just given some real perspective on this "grade" thing from a reputable source.

Sounds like the Scouts Inc (ESPN) rating system.

I was looking at the same place last night, and was specifically looking at the grades on all the players left to pick.

I have a gut feeling that if the OL rankings were broken down by LT, G, C, RT, James would have been the highest rated RT by a long shot.

Look how highly Martin was rated as an OT, and every single pundit's attitude toward him is "once he moves inside to G he'll be really really good."

That grading system also showed that after the drop off from the first 12-15 guys, there's little drop off from say 15 to 80.

A lot of teams will get multiple starters in Rounds 1-4 in this draft. I hope Miami is one of them.

I do like the fact that the Pats and 49er's reached....but they are perennial powerhouses, so they are doing something right. Let us hope this time, the Pats are taking a step back.

Grades mean nothing either way. Let's see what happens on the field.

exactly, I'm willing to bet that these grades that we see, regardless of source, are all like 3 or 4 months old.
