Pretty cool video to go with it - Luke Kuechly interviews for it - saying they had 42 circled.

DAVIE – OK, so I already have a problem with the NFL Network's Top 100 players of 2014.

They list Dolphins cornerback Brent Grimes at No. 95. I guess that’s OK.

But Dolphins tight end Charles Clay at No. 89?

No way. Absolutely, positively, no way.

Congratulations, NFL Network. You’ve sparked debate. Well done. ...

Charles Clay is definitely a playmaker at the TE/HB position.

Charles clay is not a top 50 player. Grimes may be.

This is the case of a player taking a few years to develop. Clay did not take off until his 3rd year in the league. It takes a little time for some players to develop.

Miami does have a nice core of talented players. This is a young football team that needs some key pieces in key places to take the next step.

With all the distractions that surrounded this team last year, they were 8-6 and in position to be in the playoffs when the lost those last 2 games.

I love how all these articles blame NFL Network - these were players voting, not analysts lol

I think we all know that the top 100 list is pretty much a joke.

One good or even great season is nice, but "top 100" for me would be guys who do it consistantly.. I would imagine this list is based off of 2013 season...

Clay had a great season for sure, and I hope he follows it up...

I agree, and pretty sure the list is based off individual season stats and not career consistency. Peyton will definitely be at the top after breaking every major passing record there was to break.

The Top 100 for 2013 is exactly that, for the 2013 season.

While I wouldn't say he is the 89th best player in the NFL, I would have to say that PZ makes a great point in that this was voted on by the players. He made such a mark this year and was a real focus in game prep for other teams that his name stood out with the players after the season. He's very versatile and I am very happy that the Dolphins paid me no mind when I said in the preseason that we should just cut him and take our losses.

PFF had him ranked 10th as a receiver and 5th YAC in their TE evaluations. What an improvement over a year ago.

I was also calling for his head lol. Couldn't have been more wrong.

There are still people out there not sold on Clay. I always thought he could be a great weapon with better play calling and more confidence. As his confidence grew during the last year, his play improved. You can see how dangerous he can be, and with a new OC that can hopefully continue to use his talents, he will become even more of a weapon. I hope he continues to improve (especially his hands).

The top 100 is great recognition by the players for a great year.

If he keeps improving he could be a dustin keller clone.

I think he's already there, he just has to keep it going, I would rather have Clay over Keller, neither guy can block very good but Keller's effort can be appalling at times as a blocker, never was a fan of that signing.

Imo we need a TE that can block to compliment Clay, hopefully Sims or the kid we drafted this year can step up, Fasano would have been a huge help last year, you can easily make the case that if we had Fasano last year we may have won 1 more game and gotten into the playoffs, as a blocker his presence would have been huge last year and may have been the difference in one of our close losses, not to mention he is a very reliable receiver.

What I am wondering about is Eggy, he did show progress last year, he is kind of eerily mirroring Clay's career, will this year be the year he starts to get it, his 3rd year just like Clay did, because he can be better than Clay or Keller if he can figure it out.

Agree with you 100% on Clay. I think at this point he is a better player than Dustin Keller. But I'm not sure how Egnew is mirroring Clay's career.

Clay showed glimpses earlier in his career. He would make the ocassional big play that made you think this guy was going to break out.

Egnew has shown none of that. All he has done is go from a horrendous blocker to a mediocre blocker. He has shown virtually nothing as a pass catcher.

I hope you turn out to be right, though. If Egnew can leapfrog we'd go from having question marks at tight end to having an embarrassment of riches.

Just watched a youtube video of Clay from last year. Wow. He caught many more intermediate passes up the middle than I remember. He had an awesome year. I expect him to be even better this year. Sounds weird, but I'd like to see Tannehill channel a little more Chad Henne checkdown to his arsenal. Clay and Moreno will move the chains so much more and Miami will cut down on sacks if he stops holding the ball and waiting for Wallace and Hartline to get open down field.

Egnew's only chance is if he becomes a jump ball specialist in the Red Zone, kind of like the Fauria guy in Detroit. I think he caught maybe 20 passes but 7 were for TDs. I don't even know if Egnew has that ability or catch radius. Sounds like Armon Binns was earning that role until he got hurt.

Two duds in one bad game? I'm still willing to give him a shot and now allow that to define him.

At last year's training camp it was reported he was hauling in everything for TDs until he blew out his ACL. I'd like to see if that returns and translates to points on Sundays.

He had more drops than those two. i just wouldnt get hopes up. plus i keep seeing people talk about needing a "red zone threat" and a big tall receiver
miami was 11th last year in touchdowns in the redzone better than new orleans with jimmy graham and better than seattle the champions. we dont have a problem scoring in the redzone we just have a problem getting there.

I am so tired of hearing the same crap about this guy the past 3 years. He is trash. Hopefully we cut our losses with him during training camp, just looking at the guy makes me want to puke. There's something about that guy (other than his severe lack of talent at the NFL level) that makes him very easy to dislike.

Absolutely no where near the extent of Egnew, surprised you would even compare the two.

For some reason I like Egnew. I hope he earns a chance to show skills as a pass catcher in the regular season.

Many thought the same about Clay, he did grab a couple TDs but also seemed to drop as many passes as he caught in his first 2 years, I think he had 5 drops on 18 catches in 2012, Egnew has all the physical tools to make it in the NFL, it's just a matter of him being able to figure it out, maybe he will maybe he won't, but if he does he'll probably be pretty good.

Again, Clay at least showed glimpses of what he could do.

We haven't seen a glimpse from Egnew. It would have to be a massive turnaround.

A Jimmy Graham type makes Tannehill a possible 30 TD pass guy. Think of what big targets have done for the likes of Stafford, Schaub, Cutler, Dalton, etc. who are middle of the road types. It just gives Tannehill another option and not just relying on screens and slants. There are only so many times Clay can take a 3 yard pass and bust through 4 tackles for a TD.

It also works with moving the chains. No idea how Landry will turn out, but for the most part the WRs and TEs are not making tough, contested 3rd down receptions. It would be great if a few times per game that option was available to keep the offense moving.

Would Clay have been more cut?.

Egnew also improved from year 1 to 2.
