### Dolphins tight end Michael Egnew said new offensive coordinator Bill Lazor is splitting him out as a receiver more often than Mike Sherman did. That’s the role Jeff Ireland envisioned for him. Ireland, by the way, will not get a job with the Seahawks after working as a draft consultant for them.

Egnew...AKA "Sloth"

This is Egnew's final chance to shine. Coming out of Missouri he was a seam threat receiving tight end. It will be interesting to see how he does.

At least Lazor knows his players strengths and weaknesses.

Quote:
Dolphins OC Bill Lazor is using third-year TE Michael Egnew out wide and off the line more than ex-OC Mike Sherman.
Egnew has played just 255 snaps since being the 78th overall pick in the 2012 draft, and he was asked to block on half of them. Egnew was more receiver than tight end in Mizzou's spread offense in college. Getting him out in the slot and away from linemen and linebackers is the best idea. Egnew is competing for a roster spot this summer. Lazor at least seems to know his players' strengths.

And Egnew's blocking actually improved in year 2. Maybe he's not a lost cause.

Why is Egnew a sloth?

I bet the Pats could turn him into the next Hernandez.

.....
Too soon?

I would love to trick them into coughing up a 4th round pick for him.

I seem to think more highly of Egnew than some. I think he can be successful in the nfl. Hopefully this year.

I happen to agree with you AQNOR. Lazor splitting him out, I will bet he will flourish as coming out of Missouri he was a seam threat tight end and does very well matching up against linebackers and getting open, plus he has good hands and is a big target.

I think the tight end spot is more talented than some may give credit for and beyond Charles Clay as I like the fact that Egnew, Sims and now Lynch man this spot and I expect a bigger year with the new offensive scheme and bringing out more production.

Its just time to use him or lose him. Every season there seems to always be a guy or 2 that has done nothing his entire time with this team but come June , he is going to be the one to have a break out season. New scheme , new OC or even just a new attitude. This guy just seems to be marginal at best. Whether he is on the roster or not will not have much of a bearing on the success of this season.
We now have one of the great offensive minds in the game as our OC (OK maybe a stretch there) but the fact is this is his last shot at least with this team.

He could still get cut. Sims and Lynch are well rounded tight ends.
