Post Ryan Tannehill showing fiery leadership
Quote:
By James Walker | ESPN.com

DAVIE, Fla. -- Ryan Tannehill was tested during his first two years with the Miami Dolphins. In 2012, he was a rookie starter surrounded by veterans. Last year, Tannehill gained some comfort but still wasn’t a vocal leader the Dolphins desperately needed it.

However, times appear to be changing for Tannehill in Year 3. In what is essentially a make-or-break year for Tannehill, who is 15-17 as a starter, he is already showing the kind of fiery leadership the Dolphins lacked from past quarterbacks.

Tannehill got into the face of two receivers and yelled at them for missed assignments Tuesday during the opening of mandatory minicamp. It was uncharacteristic to see the mild-mannered Tannehill chewing out teammates in public. But it could be another step in the right direction for Tannehill's overall development. ...

I don't support anyone yelling at anyone on the practice field. Everyone makes mistakes. One WR yelled at was in his first practice.

Just had this conversation with my peers. If WR (cough, B-Marsh) yelled at a QB it's crossing the line. But a QB yelling at WR is leadership?

Omar needs to go worry about the next big underground rap artist he's going to support and leave the football writing to someone else.

Where's Finesse at?

Omar just must be having a menopause moment. Marino was fiery all the time and had high expectations for guys to be in the right spot and do their assignments properly.

Nothing wrong with Tannehill getting on to guys an I would actually like to start seeing some more emotion out of him.

Well, that receiver won't do that again.

If anyone should have patience for making mistakes it should be Omar;)

Tannehill yelled at two players.

One was a rookie in his first practice who ran the wrong route.

The other was a veteran who simply gave up on a play and rumor has it, he has shown a lack of commitment to the team and the game based on the coaching staff's opinion of him (Rishard Matthews).

I disagree with Tannehill yelling at the first.

I 100% agree with him yelling at the second.

As for Omar Kelly, get over yourself. You're here to provide information, no one cares what you actually think...

He said three or four words to each guy. Its not like tore them a new one for several minutes.

Another overblown story that really isn't a story.

Just freaking execute the plays on the next opportunity.

DAVIE ——

If there was any doubt about Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill's ability to take charge of the offense, all you had to do was observe Tuesday's minicamp practice. It might have been his most promising display of the offseason.

The offense was looking ragged. And Tannehill, not known for having a fiery disposition, yelled at wide receivers Rishard Matthews, a third-year player who has proven reliable, and Gerald Ford, an undrafted rookie, on separate occasions for their miscues.

It was nothing disrespectful, rather it was a sign of Tannehill's maturity, leadership and comfort.

"Now I'm more apt to step up and say something, make a statement," Tannehill said. "That's part of playing the quarterback position. Now I feel comfortable. I have the respect of my teammates around me and now I can do that."

Tannehill, who is 15-17 as a starter

This is the second time I've seen this stat.......technically, Tannehill is 14-17 as a starter. Moore started in the Oct 23, 2012 win against the Jets (30-9).

No, Tannehill started the game and went 2 of 5 for 18 yards before injuring his knee.

So technically, he started the game even if Moore took the overwhelming majority of the snaps.

Practice the next day:

Barry Jackson wrote:
“Lot better today,” Tannehill told the team-controlled Finsiders radio show. “Still not perfect. We had a lot less mental errors. It’s exciting to see the progression from yesterday.”

### Tannehill, on new offensive coordinator Bill Lazor: “He’s very precise. He wants everything exactly like he talked about. That gives me comfort.... That accountability is raised.”
