He is a terrible quarterback. Always thought so. But im surprised they already gave up on him. Seems like they just drafted him.

Depending on the individual and their make up. I always think its best to sit a young QB & allow him some developmental time off the field. Not saying you need to bench him for a yr, but at least 10 to 12 games. Rarely does good thing come from just throwing a QB into the learning on the job while still trying to win games. I know some will disagree, but its the rare person that can step from college to starting in the NFL and find success.

Personally its the wrong move unless the coach is ready cut Manual after the season. IMO when a young Qb is struggling he needs support from his coach, not a benching. Again unless that coach is done with him.

Update: Apparently this is nothing but a job saving move for the coach.

Quote:
Per a league source, the decision to bench Manuel in favor of Orton was Marrone’s call. Presumably, Marrone realizes that new owners Terry and Kim Pegula will clean house unless the team is so good that the fans wouldn’t tolerate change.

And so in a last-ditch effort to avoid change at the highest levels of the football operation, Marrone needed to change quarterbacks.

I do basically believe the same things your saying, the only part I disagree with is benching equals giving up on a player, sometimes a benching is just the thing to motivate a player, just like sometimes being released or traded can be a great motivator.

It really depends on the psyche of each individual player, they either rise to the occasion or wither and fade, it's similar to what Tanne just went through, and is exactly what Delmas just went through, both of those guys responded well, what we have to see was it temporary.

Not only did we lose to EJ Manuel, but we lost to Geno Smith, and who was that back up in Buffalo, was it Thaddeous Lewis, who we lost to last year toward the end of the season....?

Heck, we even lost to Tim Tebow a few years ago.

Just simply unbelievable to me.

Good point, but you have to also beat the bad teams too, they count towards your record as well.

Don't forget Andrew Luck too.

That's been a problem with us. We go soft against teams that aren't great, so we look worse.

Then that's when the whole, "Coaches gotta get players ready mentally" thing comes in, and IMO that's on the players. Sure, some spark from the staff could help, but the Coaches are calling the plays but the players start walkin around gettin beat. It doesn't matter what plan is on.

On another note, I was at the Chiefs Pats game tonight. The stadium was nuts. The only place I thought it was even crazier was when I saw Miami in Arizona a few years ago (I was literally gettin shaken around when AZ did anything good). That kind of atmosphere is what Miami could really use.
I mean Brady looked like :crap all night. Their whole offense looked bad.

EJ has been pretty awful the last few weeks and this comes from a guy that is also a FSU fan. I'm a little surprised they did this, as there are other problems on offense as well (the interior of the line is awful and coaching leaves something to be desired)

Regardless the team is in win now mode especially with new ownership coming in and the AFC (L)east apparently up for grabs. My biggest fear is that Orton has no mobility and might get killed when the interior of the line caves in.

And, in response to an earlier post, the Bills receivers really did not carve up the Miami secondary. Watkins was scary good but everybody else was quiet.

Not to change the subject, but comparing Tannehill to EJ Manuel, the numbers are pretty close.

16 -Ryan Tannehill MIA QB 93 155 60.0 38.8 902 5.8 225.5 6 3 53 34.2 35 7 0 9 81.2

19- EJ Manuel BUF QB 76 131 58.0 32.8 838 6.4 209.5 5 3 39 29.8 80T 13 1 6 80.3

Is Kyle Orton really that much better than Manuel?

I don't agree with him losing his starting position. If he is ineffective in games then pull him. Philben is in the same place as Buffalo's coach. In fact, with the new ownership coming in I think Marrone's job is all ready gone.

the only problem I see with this, is if Orton doesn't work out. There's no going back to EJ. Once they're benched.....it is inside their head.

Ha! Mike Greenburg just said the bottom 4 deep ball passers in the NFL this year are all in the AFC East.

Well Tannehill is 3 of 11 on deep balls with 2 drops. So there's that.

Dan Carpenter a stud now....?

Sorry guys, I can't post new topic, but Rob Carpenter is a stud and won for Buffalo today on a 58 yard field goal, against the Lions.

So many games this guy lost for us, but Carpenter is better than Sturgis.

correct Rob to Dan misspell.

Now you see why your new topic privilege was taken away. BTW, it's DAN not Rob and how fast you forget that Carp. cost us really close games a few years back by missing field goals and his salary cap was high. You and Jim are killing me....

I don't get why my privilege was taken away, and Dan or Rob (wrong first name, who cares if your name is Caleab, Dan or Rob), who cares, but I agree, Dan Carpenter killed us many a times in several games, but Sturgis is worse.

Sorry for Rob comment, probably stuck on being "Rob"-bed on several games, and it stuck.

Robbed us, hope you get the PUN.

But Carpenter won a big game for Buffalo when Detroit should have easily won this game, but their kicker missed 2 easy field goals, I would have easily made.

He converts mostly shorter to mid range field goals. Thats your game up their in Buffalo though, you guys don't hit paydirt enough, so Carp is a perfect fit for you. He's a good solid kicker.

He made 6 FGs over 50 yards last year and one this year

That was his reputation, but he has improved his distance

Every starting QB in the division might be benched this season.

Geno Smith is definitely one who is well overdue. Man, he stinks this year as he is leaving a lot of plays on the field.

I watched EJ play at FSU for three years and he never seemed to have the "it" factor the whole time he was there. Hehas a million dollar arm but a fifty cent head. Jimbo Fisher was even quoted saying that he was surprised EJ was taken in the first round and thought he was a third rounder at best

I'm confused...Geno has the best field awareness in the NFL.

Carpenter hit a little speed bump in 2012, a couple of his misses could have won games, but he didn't have a bad season, he only missed 5 FGs that year and they were all outside of 47 yds, besides that he has been a very good kicker.

His salary cap wasn't the real problem, chasing a bunch of high priced FAs was the real culprit.

God, what a wonderful series of videos! It was nice to enjoy a good laugh at the expense of the Jets!

Ain't it the truth? We have a pretty tough defense but some how Geno, EJ and that other Buffalo scrub gave us their best.

Those teams get up for divisional games and we are flat, watch sunday how flat we come out.
