He and the Steelers have parted ways. He runs the 3-4.

Would love it. Philbin will never do it.

He'd run a 3-4. And like Rich said in another thread, the key piece to a 3-4 is someone the Dolphins don't have now

I don't like, or should say hate the idea of drafting a NT with the 14th pick. He doesn't have the current personnel to run his base defense and that may be a good thing looking down the road. The man needs to hang up the hat, it's been a long career.

Fire Coyle and hire him.

Quote:
The Steelers appear poised for a complete overhaul of their defense, following the resignation of defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau. It's an overhaul that has been ongoing since 2012.

The departure of LeBeau, who wanted to return for another season ...

The 77-year-old LeBeau defies birth certificates and conventional thinking about age. He inspires his players, who hated to fail him because they felt they were letting down their own fathers.

That is his legacy as much as his zone-blitz innovation and his Pro Football Hall of Fame playing career with the Detroit Lions.

LeBeau is probably as proud of the personal relationships he developed with his players as he is of what he accomplished on the field. Under LeBeau, the Steelers set the standard for NFL defenses while playing in three Super Bowls from 2005 to 2010 and winning two of them.

Didn't Miami run a successful 3-4 at the time Philbin was hired? Of course Philbin had zero interest in running something successful.

I'm curious as to why? He is an upgrade over Coyle. Iwould love Dick to mentor a young guy on the fins with his system. He came up with the zone blitz scheme.

Bring him in for 2 years with the understanding that his heir apparent is already identified and holding his pocket full time.

Steelers just replaced him with Butler. Imagine that , being able to hire from within to keep continuity.
