IIRC, Sean Smith was asking $10m a year from Ireland the weeks prior to his contract expiring. There isn't a GM with his head on straight that would have brought him back anywhere near those numbers. He was underwhelming the majority of his time here when you compare his performance to his contract demands. He wasn't going to stay in Miami. Let it go.
Vontae Davis is an entirely different story. Much better player, and left under more bizarre and unexpected circumstances.
why not find someone who can actually evaluate players at that position, then find someone who knows how to coach the position. Seems like it would be a lot cheaper and a lot quicker to fix.
I'm fairly certain that every team in the league has one of those guys...they're specialists, and I believe they are called scouts and General Managers. Just because Miami has relatively failed with the actual process, it doesn't mean they are the exception in not having those guys on the payroll. That makes no sense...
