The Dolphins plan to cut Fields unless he agrees to restructure his contract.

That's a lot of money for a punter ... especially with so many that are available.

Quote:
The Miami Dolphins plan to cut punter Brandon Fields in a cap clearing maneuver designed to create $3.1 million in cap space.

According to sources, there's a possibility Fields could restructure the final two years of his existing deal, which was slated to pay the 2013 Pro Bowl punter $7.18 million.

But if a deal can't get done by Tuesday's 4 p.m. deadline Fields will likely be released to help Miami create cap space for the signing of defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, and other free agents.

His numbers went down with more productivity on offense and in general his punting was lacking last season.

Last in the league in amount of punts, and 1st in 3 and out percentage on offense at just 12%. Outstanding numbers, which is why this red zone receiver is such a big deal with those type of numbers the offense put up, because that was the ugly side of that stat. Red zone efficiency.

This. Brandon Fields punts WAY TO many line drive punts. Does no good to have the average he has when he has no hang time.
