The Dolphins have needs at cornerback, receiver and middle linebacker — but now there’s a report that they’re considering signing an outside linebacker who might be best suited as a defensive end in Miami’s defense.

Graham (Getty Images)
Philadelphia’s Brandon Graham is leaning toward the Dolphins and Titans, Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia’s Derrick Gunn reported on Twitter.

But Gunn added that the New York Giants might make Graham “an offer he can’t refuse.”

Graham, who turns 27 next month, was graded last season as the NFL’s third-best outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense according to Pro Football Focus.

He’d probably be best suited as a defensive end in Miami’s 3-4 defense. It’s possible he could play outside linebacker where the Dolphins have more of a need.

It would make more sense for the Dolphins to sign a middle linebacker like Tampa Bay’s Mason Foster and then move Koa Misi back to the strong-side.

But throw Graham’s name in the mix of possibilities.

This is an interesting move if it happens. Graham is a 3-4 OLB, but is 274 lbs. Does he fit as a 4-3 OLB or are they looking to make a move at DE? Does that mean the Dolphins are looking to unload Wake? The Dolphins save $7.6 million against the cap by unloading Wake and take a $2.8 million dead cap hit.

I wonder if something larger is brewing here. There is also word that Oakland is interested in Wallace. Weird news bits popping up.

I'd love to see Wake play alongside Suh. Graham is a former 1st rd pick if I'm not mistaken. interesting.

Yep. He has played DE in a 4-3 and OLB in a 3-4. But I thought we were set at DE in our 4-3. I would question signing him to play OLB in a 4-3. The Giants are talking to him as well apparently. I believe they also run a 4-3.

That is a massive size for the position.

I hope not.

For a 43 OLB yes, for a 34 OLB no. He's actually short for a 34 OLB. Weight is about right to play the elephant.

I'd be stunned if it happens but #Dolphins would free up $7.7 million by cutting Cam Wake. And they're surprisingly pursuing Brandon Graham

Adam Beasley ‏@AdamHBeasley ·8 mins8 minutes ago
Re: Brandon Graham speculation, Wake has not been asked to restructure this offseason, so if it would happen, wld prob be Graham AND Wake.

Are the Dolphins down on Olivier Vernon?

I wonder if the Phins have identified some trade options for Wake? Demarcus Ware received $20M guaranteed over 3 years from the Broncos last year...........that's probably consistent with the market value for Wake. Like a lot of us, Wake's been my favorite player for the past 5 years, but with the Suh signing, his days in Miami maybe coming to an end.

We also have the No.1 Defensive Pick from the 2013 draft. Even Coyle admits he needs to get him on the field. Though there's been some talk of transitioning him to OLB, his natural and likely best position is DE.

Coyle on Jordan from late last season.

“We’re going to evaluate everything here as we go into the offseason. That’s certainly going to be one of the main topics,” Dolphins defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle admitted. “We have got to find ways to utilize him more. ... We have got to get him in the right spot and we’re going to evaluate that real closely and we’ll see what we determine to be the best fit for him. He has the athleticism to do a lot of things.”

They aren't paying this guy to be a 2 deep at DE...definitely a bizarre move. There has to be another plan in place that we have yet to figure out for this to make sense IMO.

From the way I look at it, that is all the more reason to keep him (Wake).

It's hard to believe how long this has taken, especially when you consider the trade up for him and value given up. He must really be underwhelming throughout camp and the season for the coaches to still be saying crap like this.

No, but when you look at the pursuit of Graham and the cap savings for Wake, one does take pause to consider it.

Sounds like we're out of the running here. Kind of glad, he hasn't been a high production pass rusher and I am happy with Wake and Vernon for at least one more season.

Resigns with Eagles. Thank God, this seemed like one of those moves that wasn't going to make sense.

Sounds like an agent was doing his job.

The Dolphins never called about Brandon Graham. Had no interest. So nothing to see. They didn't "miss out" on him.

With Shelby and Fede in the wings it made no sense, so it makes sense they didn't contact him.
