Should we kick the tires? See if we can bring him in cheap?

He is going to take a massive pay cut wherever he goes. Guy has taken a lot of hits, he should retire. I don't see much of any ceiling for him anymore.

The Rams are looking to bring him back on obviously a deal with a LOT less money. Jake has not finished a season now in 4 straight years.

And not even close to playing a full 16 game season in any at all IIRC.

Wouldn't mind bringing him in if he'd be willing to come in as a swing tackle. Would be nice to have some useful depth at offensive tackle for once. Would also be good insurance in case Albert isn't 100 percent to start the season.

Jake Long = Tony Boselli. Great players who didn't last long because they insisted on playing through injuries..... and the aggrivated injuries never healed properly as a result.

I would be ok with bringing him in on a prove it deal. He's athletic enough to play left guard and if Albert or James get hurt, he can step right in.

We just inked Fox for multi-year deal.

Albert (if healthy) will start at left- Fox if Albert can not go day 1
James @ RT

Don't know what Long would bring to the table. He's not a scheme fit, he does not move laterally, just forward and backwards... he's not nimble enough to zone block. And he is not guard versatile.

Miami is going the other way... smaller, and more mobile linemen... Long is a dinosaur of the Parcells era. Loved the guy when we had him.. but better off not bothering here

I wouldn't mind signing him to a Satele type of deal and move him inside to guard. Though having two linemen that can't last a whole season beside each other might not be such a good idea.

Long at guard? How do you figure that one?

It would be embarrassing to watch him try to pull.

who said he'd be pulling when we don't run the ball that often.

He's not built to play guard.

He could be a decent left guard.

genius.... a zone blocking guard!

At this point in Long's career, he is about the equivalent of Fox.. a depth tackle. We just locked up our depth tackle position.

If Long was available before they inked Fox... i would have said go for it! but we inked Fox.
Nothing to see here, move along

If you ask Junkie Rock, he's not built at all.
:haha
(sorry, didn't mean to go there, just couldn't help it)

In all seriousness though, he just doesn't seem to be built for the rigors of the NFL.

We all have a genetic cap on how much our bodies can take, and how much we excel, I think we've reached the ceiling on his body, lol, sad but true.

I'd be OK with bringing him in cheap as a swing tackle for depth purposes. Not as a front line starter.
