Ex-Lions assistant Washburn and dad headed to Dolphins

Former Detroit Lions offensive line coach Jeremiah Washburn is headed to the Miami Dolphins, and his father should be joining him on staff.

Washburn will join the Dolphins as an offensive assistant after coaching the Lions' offensive line most of the past three seasons. He was fired by the Lions, along with offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi and assistant line coach Terry Heffernan, in October.

Jim Washburn, who sat out last season with the Lions partly for health reasons, also is headed to Miami, as a senior defensive assistant, according to Fox Sports.

ESPN reported last year that the Dolphins tried to hire Jim Washburn to work with their defensive line before the 2015 season, but the Lions would not let Washburn out of his contract, and Washburn decided to sit out the season while recovering from surgery.

In Miami, the elder Washburn will be reunited with All-Pro defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.

The Dolphins were interested in hiring Lions defensive line coach Kris Kocurek, but Kocurek remains under contract in Detroit.

Yup, that would be the one I would like to get. He is also on the radar for the Eagles DC position.
Which may be why we are seeking him for senior defensive assistant..
Grabbed this from phin addicts:
Quote:
As per Alex Marvez, source tells NFL on FOX that Miami Dolphins are hiring Jim Washburn as senior defensive assistant working with the D-Line. Ties w/Ndamukong Suh. The Dolphins were denied permission by Lions to interview defensive line coach Kris Kocurek for same position.
Heralded as one of the best defensive line coaches in the NFL, Washburn joined the Detroit Lions coaching staff as assistant defensive line/pass rush specialist in 2013 after serving as the Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive line coach from 2011-2012. Washburn’s stout coaching resume features six defensive linemen he has coached to the Pro Bowl, including Jason Babin, Kyle Vanden Bosch, Kevin Carter, Albert Haynesworth, Jevon Kearse and Ndamukong Suh.

I like that Gase is interested in these veteran assistants.

Morning take: It was somewhat of a talent swap on defense. The Dolphins hired Vance Joseph to run their defense, and Coyle returns to Cincinnati to coach defensive backs. Lazor goes back to be quarterbacks coach, where he will work with Andy Dalton.

Jeremiah Washburn and his family will be a great addition to this team. You will enjoy watching him assist the offensive line for years to come. Thumbs need to go this way. :yay:
