About a week and a half ago it was reported that new Miami Dolphins head coach, and former Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase, was trying to pry Bears' outside linebackers coach Clint Hurtt away to become his defensive line coach.http://www.windycitygridiron.com/2016/1 ... t-stays-in
Yesterday it was reported by Sports Illustrated that the Bears were blocking that move. With another year remaining on Hurtt's contract, the Bears have every right to stop an assistant coach from moving to become an assistant coach with another team. The only time an assistant coach can leave technically without permission, is if he is going to take a head coaching gig with another NFL team.
The Bears announced yesterday that they were going to allow offensive assistant Bo Hardegree out of his contract so that he could join Gase in Miami as his quarterbacks coach. Hardegree was an offensive quality control coach with the Denver Broncos in 2014, working under OC Adam Gase, before coming over to the Bears in 2015 with head coach John Fox.
Going from offensive assistant to QB coach is a clear upgrade for Hardegree, so the Bears are doing his career a solid by letting him go.
