Will be interesting to see if Miami goes after Matt, a player Coach Gase is familiar with. Did not have a big contract with the Bears, and Miami could certainly sign him to a team friendly deal.

A pair of veteran players are now former members of the Bears. On Sunday evening, the Bears officially released offensive lineman Matt Slauson and safety Antrel Rolle.

“We thank Matt and Antrel for the dedication and leadership they brought to our organization,” Bears G.M. Ryan Pace said in a press release. “Both men did everything we asked of them. Part of growing as a team is making difficult decisions like the ones we made today. We never take them lightly given the respect we have for everyone who has put on a Bears uniform. We wish each of them the very best as they move forward.”

Slauson, 30, started all 16 games last year, his third with the Bears. He previously played for the Jets.

Due to make $2.887 million in 2016, Slauson will count $835,000 against the cap. If the Bears made him a post-June 1 cut, that amount will be split over the next two years.

Both Slauson and Rolle become immediate free agents. Still, it would have been far better for both to become free agents long before the draft, and definitely not after it ended.

Pace can say what he wants about respecting Rolle and Slauson, but if the team truly respected them they would have been cut at a time when they would have had a much better opportunity to find work elsewhere. Now that teams with needs at those positions have filled them through the draft, it becomes much harder.

But Welcome to the Family anyway, all you draft picks who eventually could be treated the same way by the Bears or one of the other 31 franchises.

Very interesting fact here......Knew about him playing under Gase, but did not know this.

Matt Slauson was drafted by Mike Tannenbaum and played last year for Adam Gase. Makes a lot of sense, folks.

As I thought about it more, I now remember him playing for the Jets.

Bears released OG Matt Slauson.
Slauson was owed just under $3 million this season. The move is surprising after Slauson finished No. 18 in Pro Football Focus' 2015 guard ratings, with a top-ten rank in pass protection. He allowed one sack in 16 starts, and just turned 30 in February. While the Bears are moving on with second-round pick Cody Whitehair at left guard, a good guard just hit the free agent market.

This late in the process, you can get Slauson on a good deal and he a quality OG. Chicago really did not do him any favor waiting this long to release him after the draft. Good for Miami hopefully.

I would feel so much better about the defense if we still had OV........ Hope someone steps up and then we still need a backup even if that happens..

Counting on Jordan and Wake coming off injury and getting older is not a plan......Then we don't draft a guy to boot

Atleast the oline looks alot better and has some depth now.

You never know. You still will have some quality football players that will be released. See how things pan out.

Would love to see him start at guard.

Really do wish they'd just move Tunsil into the left tackle spot right now and be done with it. Why mess around? Albert at LG, Pouncey at C, Slauson at RG then a competition between Bushrod and James at RT. Loser of that becomes a pretty darn good swing tackle.

Unfortunately Albert does not want to move. I was hoping and thinking the same thing. Albert played OG at Virginia.

I woudnt move him anyway, he will move himself to the Injured list at some point during the 16 game season, Tunsil will take the spot and hopefuly keep it..

Let Tunsil compete at G, he is fine with it. His attitude in that regards is great, he just wants a shot.
If he doesnt fit at G, then see my first response lol

I would love to grab Slausen, just not sure about the $ side of it and where the team is at...

Last I saw, with the trade of Jamar Taylor, the Dolphins have 20 mill in cap space. Some of that will go to signing the rookies, but still should be more than enough to sign some additional personnel.

Come on Tannenbaum. Upgrade the roster. The trend now is to have a pass rush that goes after the quarterback. The way to beat that trend is to have the best 5 players that you can afford on the line. Slauson is affordable.

Barry Jackson wrote:
Matt Slauson, cut by the Bears on Sunday, would make some sense for Miami --– a proven guard who played under Adam Gase last season and was drafted by Mike Tannenbaum in New York.

But as of midday Tuesday, Miami hadn’t reached out to him. At the moment, Billy Turner, Jermon Bushrod, Dallas Thomas and Jamil Douglas would compete at right guard, with Laremy Tunsil at left guard.

He has visits setup with San Diego and Buffalo already. I thought Miami would show interest, but they seem to be content with what they have. Tunsil we man the OLG spot next year and they will let Bushrod, Douglas, Turner, Thomas & Urik battle it our for the ORG spot.

My money is on Bushrod, with the remaining guys providing depth.

I know, right? With the injury prone Albert there's a very good possibility Tunsil will be play LT at some point and we're right back where we started w/ guard. There is more fat to trim at the Guard spot in my opinion. Bring Slauson in.

Really surprised we're not all over this.
Must be trying to get something out of Turner or Douglas still.

I hope Gase is much smarter than staying with what was the death of our past coaches.

The offensive line has been the achilles heal of the problems for our offense for some time now and I am actually beyond perplexed why Dallas Thomas is still even on our roster let alone any NFL roster.

Seems like a guy like Slauson can plug in from day one and provide an immediate upgrade.

We would have one of the best starting fives (Albert, Tunsil, Pouncey, Slauson, James)
and have solid backups too (Bushrod, Young, Urbik, Douglas, Turner, McLendon)

Miami is not signing anyone until May 12th anyway, which is the day you can sign and not have it affect comp picks.

Except since Slauson was cut outright, doesn't that mean he wouldn't affect comp picks? I thought we could sign him any time w/o worrying about that.

I think you are right Ken. I would have thought Miami would have been interested, but they seem to be content with what they have now. Hopefully they will change their minds.

Adding Slauson could definitely turn this unit into a positive along with Tunsil.

I think they have a lot of confidence in Bushnell.

Can't disagree. They could have made their perennial weakness into a strength with this signing.

Well since this staff knows him and did not pursue him that might say something.
They have been hitting home runs all off season so I will think they knew best here.
