Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline reports that the San Francisco 49ers "are very high" on LSU RB Leonard Fournette and are "seriously considering using the second pick" to get him.
"The new front office wants a bigger back to run the offense and they’re ready to give up on Carlos Hyde, who has had his struggles staying healthy since being drafted by the franchise in 2014," Pauline wrote. Stanford DE Solomon Thomas has been the most popular player slotted to San Francisco at No. 2 in industry mock drafts. North Carolina QB Mitchell Trubisky has also been oft-mentioned as a possibility. We hadn't heard Fournette as a serious contender for the slot until now. New 49ers general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan have bigger needs than running back, but if they've identified Fournette as a franchise-changing talent, they may ultimately decide to take the plunge.
