He played smart last night.

I like what they did because he has struggled to throw the ball downfield. If not for a lot of stupid penalties it would have worked nicely.

At some point they at least need to dial up some throws that go beyond 10 yards or this offense will get suffocated.

Those Cutler deep balls sail ugly as hell too. I obviously wouldn’t be as accurate, he’s got the experience but I can sure as hell throw a prettier, tighter deep ball than him. At least from what I’ve seen this season. They’re like flailing ducks. Bobby Douglas would be proud.

Therein lies the long term problem for this season. I liked what Gase did last night because it could have been a one game winning formula. We got to see what the backs could do on check downs with space...however, this is now as bad as any other noodle armed QB in previous years. Defenses will simply take away those short throws.

The exciting part about bringing in Cutler was his arm and ability to throw deep. The troubling evidence was there early on with Parker and others bailing him out. I was hoping that was just chemistry issues but it seems clear that Cutler either isn't right or has lost his fastball.

The one positive we can take away is that he now knows not to force it. He might be able to get away with Alex Smith style ball from time to time, and, it may be enough for a few more wins.
