I don't see it as impossible. He handled NFL level blocking just fine and picking up the run game is gonna take some time, but why not. He's a physical beast and seems smart enough
Just about every guy that comes into the NFL has the physical attributes to play...when you come in on 3rd down and told to rush the passer and that's it, it's fairly simple. It's when you throw in all the other situations and plays that makes him complete.
I hope he can do it, but I haven't seen enough to know. With Porter/Taylor on one side, and Wake a rookie pass rusher, he was facing quite a few single blocks. He's the only pass rusher on the team now...can he create enough attention and still make plays? Can he fend off two/three blockers on a run play? Can Nolan mix it up enough to keep offenses on their heels? Can someone else step up to help take the pass rushing pressures off of Wake?
There's too many questions on defense...and I think a lot of it hinges on Wake's development.
Since Ireland didn't go after a pass rusher, I'm assuming they feel very strong about Wake and confident in him manning that position....but Ireland also thought Gibril Wilson could man the free safety spot.
