Q: Will Jason Allen get cut this season? A. Henry, Milwaukee.

A: As mentioned in a recent blog on Allen and his contributions on special teams, I believe he’s in the right place to hang on through the end of his six-year rookie contract. Nobody values special teams more highly than the Dolphins, and Allen is excellent as a “core-four” guy.

quote from http://www.thephinsider.com/

"Enter Jonathon Amaya. The undrafted rookie out of Nevada has reportedly been impressing those who have seen him perform this offseason. He runs a low 4.5 to high 4.4 40 and has a nose for the ball. That's what has impressed most, as Amaya has made plays on the football often during these offseason practices. He's also very versatile, having played both safety positions as well as cornerback in college, something this coaching staff values greatly "

Hmmm... good point. Still Allen is under contract and I believe Amaya isn't so we'll have to see...

I hope he stays. Great special team player and a serviceable backup. He gets to much baloney because of his draft position.

Amaya sounds like a good prospect... what's his size?? the one thing lost in the discussion of this topic is that Jason Allen also has Trifecta prototypical size. Thats why Saban drafted him, because he was tall and fast and out of the SEC. The reason he survived the first 2 years of the Trifecta is because of his special teams contributions yet he is also their ideal of size and speed.... If there was a choice between Will Allen, and Jason Allen, don't be so hasty to think that Will would stay. He's smallish at like 5'9 ish and older, and it is VERY VERY clear that bigger and younger are cherished commodities to Parcells and co. So yes, on the merit of his special teams abilities, he stays. On the merit that he is a bigger DB, well thats just even more reason for him to stay as well. I think that if he were willing to accept a non-starter's pay rate, he may become the longest tenured Dolphins to stay thru the trifecta's reign (when Ricky retires of course)
