Cut a guy you've put a substantial investment in before it pays off, just to get a million or two in cap relief this year?
Well, when you go out in free agency and pay unheard of money for a player, you expect immediate results. Teams definitely do not plan going beyond the third year of a contract like Suh's without a restructure (Suh expected this as well after signing the contract) or cutting outright.
Still, when you see the dead money, you have to wonder if cutting Suh at any point is such a good idea this year. Can the Dolphins pay $9.1 million for a huge hole in the middle ... and then add to that by having to add a cheaper DT alternative in free agency?https://overthecap.com/salary-cap/miami-dolphins
Thank you Dave for that. As a fan, you may not like this signing. You may argue he hasn't been worth it. I can see the arguments either way. But cutting him at this point makes no sense. Especially when they go out and add Quinn to make this DL even more formidable on paper. Suh and his contract is not the reason this team isn't winning.
And even though I think Pouncey is on his last legs, I'd rather ride him one more year then cut him and add one more hole to the team.
