Per source, new Dolphins QB Brock Osweiler is signing a 1-year deal there.

Osweiler (6-7) and Tannehill (6-4) tallest QB combo in the league, IMO. https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/977278174768836608

And we thought we'd reached new heights in our qb debates around here.

Under Gase's direction this can be the best free agent signing.
The draft has not even taken place yet and we have a scary roster.
I can see the rest of the division in real panic mode.

Brock has the best catch radius of any backup QB in the league.

I sure hope Gase and Tannenbum are checking on future career options....the 2018 Dolphins scream of mediocrity. 7-9+/- a game, here we cone again! If the numbers hold up, then we will see our next winning season in 2024.

If we have a good year will you be disappointed? It kinda seems that way. Say, you're not really a Jets fan, are you?

I don’t understand this. I wouldn’t have signed this guy for more than $4.5m against my team’s cap, which I am positive he isn’t getting. If Tannehill goes down I want a young kid with potential in there on the cheap to get experience while the season goes downhill.

I don’t want an established mediocre QB who may net the team a handful of wins while making $7m + and sinking the franchise further down the draft order. I can’t find the numbers anywhere online but I can certainly tell you I won’t agree with it.

While I agree, Miami has never been one to be planning ahead. Always ignoring the TE position and young developing QB. It must be in the team creed or something.

I do want to point out. NFL player in the correct system can flourish, just as successful ones disappoint after changing. Nick Foles is a prime example of being in a system that fits your ability allows you to flourish. He has bombed in other systems.

We reported a couple weeks ago that the Dolphins have told people they’re open to finding their backup quarterback in the draft, if it’s possible. And the Brock Osweiler signing doesn’t change that. As colleague Armando Salguero wrote today, Osweiler is by no means assured of making the roster, let alone being Ryan Tannehill’s backup.

Incidentally, Pro Football Focus said Osweiler was the second worst of 39 qualifying quarterbacks last year, ranked 38th overall and ahead of only Blaine Gabbert.

Why sign him then if he’s ranked 2nd to last?

Foles type backup. Good move.

I am taking an educated guess in saying I highly doubt they got him on good value too.

I don't mind this, as long as it's not expensive. I doubt that it is. We needed a veteran in camp even if we draft a QB and let's face it there wasn't much to choose from out there. I know it's the season of second guessing, and deservedly so, but at least he's familiar with Gases system.

Of course we said that about Cutler too...

Osweiler doesn’t fit the veteran in the locker room mold.

Yep, Cutler part deux. Gase is overrated. I see this as his last season and Tannehill’s too.

If the Jets get Rosen, I will scream. He is the most talented QB in this year’s draft and, of course, the Browns are too stupid to take him. Yeah, he’s cocky. You need that to play QB in the NFlL.

This is all I need to feel good about this signing. :)

Seriously, I'm not upset if the Phins want to give him a chance. Better then Moore, or Cutler. If he's just a camp arm, I'm fine with that to.

Dayum. I was way off. I can’t conplain about the numbers, but I still would not have signed him. I hope like hell T Hill balls this year but the odds are against him being Miami’s longterm guy.

This team needs a young, potential stud behind him. Brock Osweiler is a waste on this team and I would argue a liability as well. He would be more valuable behind an established incumbent QB.

I really don't get why he signed so cheap. Perhaps he hoping for a 1 year reboot to work on his basics.

Barry Jackson wrote:
One reason the Dolphins settled on Brock Osweiler instead of Chad Henne, who they also reached out to: Osweiler agreed to a modest deal of $790,000 in base salary with a $90,000 signing bonus and $720,000 guarantee.

Henne would have been more costly: The Chiefs gave him two years and $6.7 million, plus performance bonuses. He got a $3.1 million signing bonus. So he gets $5.15 million if he’s on the team only one year.

Something had to be done. Hopefully we'll see some improvment this summer. Dr Gase is on the job.

Barry Jackson wrote:
Gase has changed some of quarterback Brock Osweiler’s mechanics, and he looked good Wednesday aside from a pass batted down by rookie Jamiyus Pittman.

“We’re just working on a few things to tweak a few things mechanically,” Gase said. “Nothing big. We’re just trying to get him back in rhythm to where we were three or four years ago, however long it’s been. It’s coming back to him really fast.
