What? A positive article on the Fins. If the stars line up, we could see the playoffs as a wild card.

The key to the Dolphins making a surprise push for the playoffs is getting quarterback Ryan Tannehill healthy, and keeping him that way. Tannehill might not be an elite signal-caller, but he has produced a PFF grade between 80.9 and 85.1 every season of his career so far. That will put you among the top 50 percent of quarterbacks in the NFL every season, and with enough help around him, he gives you a chance to win. The Dolphins have made additions on offense, adding guard Josh Sitton who has allowed just 18 total pressures on 856 pass-blocking snaps over the past two seasons and slot receiver Albert Wilson. Wilson replaces Jarvis Landry who dominated out of the slot, but Wilson was no slouch, producing a PFF grade of 77.1 and he will have the opportunity to flourish in the Dolphins system.

Defensively, Robert Quinn is the big addition upfront, but despite him racking up 10 sacks in 2017, we haven’t seen any real consistency from him as a pass-rusher since his two-year performance between 2013 and 2014, with just 81 total pressures over the past three seasons. The key addition on defense is first-round defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick, who showcased the ability to play safety and in the slot at Alabama, and should bring that versatility to the Dolphins.

Teams do change from one year to another, but this is encouraging for our season. I also expect our OL to be better this year. It could be a rebound season for us if the Dolphins play the way he expects them to play.

Why does Ryan Tannehill have a good chance to come out of the box strong this season, presuming his surgically repaired left knee holds up?

Based on last year’s stats, no quarterback arguably will face a worse collection of pass defenses over the first three months of the season than the Dolphins.

As Warren Sharp of Sharp Football pointed out, the Dolphins “face the NFL’s easiest schedule of pass defenses in Weeks 1 through 12.”

What’s more, “the Dolphins also face a difficult run-defense slate during that stretch, enhancing their need to rely on the… passing game.”

Consider: Of Miami’s first 12 opponents, 10 of them ranked 20th or lower in pass defense last season.

The Jets, who play Miami twice in the first nine weeks, were 21st. Tennessee, which opens the season at Miami, was 25th.

Oakland, who plays the Dolphins in Week 3, was 26th. New England, the week 4 opponent, was 30th, although that’s partly a byproduct of teams needing to pass a lot against the Patriots because the Pats were usually ahead.

Detroit was 27th, Houston 24th, Green Bay 23rd and Indianapolis 28th.

The only two opponents who were higher than 20th in pass defense rankings: Cincinnati, Miami’s Week 5 opponent, was eighth. Chicago, Miami’s Week 6 opponent, was seventh.

Sharp, using a multipronged formula, rates the Dolphins’ schedule ninth-easiest in the league.

Am I the only one who thinks it shouldn't be a surprise? There aren't any excuses. Miami isn't trotting out a team of rookies or broken down old vets.

Tannehill has all summer to shake off the rust and an incredibly talented receiving group to throw to. Not sure about the TEs, but he should be dinking and dunking these weak defenses to death between Wilson, Amendola, Parker and Grant. He also has a New England style set of RBs who should be catching a ton of passes out of the backfield. If he can't produce a mid 90s+ QB rating then its truly time to cut the cord.

The OL should be better. Kilgore is a plug and play starter, Sitton a huge upgrade, and Davis was great last year. If Tunsil and James can be merely average then the offense should be able to finally operate in this up tempo thing we've been hearing about for 2 years.

Losing Suh is going to be rough, but Miami added enough speed on defense to hopefully not get roasted by slot receivers and running backs.

Gase got the say he wanted and the players he wanted. Can't predict injuries, but as currently constructed this should be a minimum 9 win team. If they are truly facing weak pass defenses then there is no excuse for not putting up 21+ PPG. Even if these teams can slow down the run, you have 3 very good pass catching backs. Check down these defenses to death and don't take unnecessary sacks. Brady has made a career out of throwing sideways and quick slants with similar type setups.

I am all for cutting the cord on Tannehill, as soon as the Phins have someone better.

No QB will face a worse row of bad defenses against the pass than Ryan over the first 3 months of the season?

.......That’s Miami’s entire season.

:)
