Source: The #Dolphins have requested permission to speak with #Saints defensive coordinator Dennis Allen. His first known interview. Given the job he’s done, could’ve happened earlier.

He failed because by the time the Raiders hired him, they had traded away most of their draft picks and had salary cap problems.

I would be open to a good DC as head coach. Also a hungry retread.

A defensive assistant in New Orleans from 2006-2010, Allen became the Broncos' DC in 2011 and parlayed that into the Raiders' head-coaching job in 2012, lasting 36 games on the job and compiling an 8-28 record before getting fired after an 0-4 start in 2014. Allen was dealt Terrelle Pryor and Matt McGloin as his quarterbacks in Oakland, an obvious recipe for failure. He's since turned around a Saints defense that was the worst in history just a couple years ago under Steve Spagnuolo. Allen is only 46 years old and has steadily been rising the ranks again.

He got a raw deal in Oakland but I think he was one of the few people willing to take that job.

These available coaches seem as bad as the QB class coming out of the draft. What a time to be in need of both.

Yep, some of these coaching candidates haven't even held their current positions that long either ... just like Gase when we got him. And Allen's defense looked good this year, but it took a couple of good player additions to jump-start them this year. I'm not really thrilled about any of them to be honest. One of the things I like about Rizzi is that I know it will be darn entertaining to see him having a blowup on the sideline on a regular basis.

Interesting take I heard on Allen...

What if Miami interviewed him to get an idea of how Teddy Bridgewater looked in practices this year? Allen would know better than anyone whether Bridgewater could read a defense or if he was a guy who struggled with pressure.

Would surely help Miami figure out if they want to pony up over $10 million per season for Teddy.

So I went back and looked at the thread when Gase was hired. Most did not agree with the hire. Then sentiment changed after year one then of course steadily decined after that.
Maybe at this point Ross should poll Phinfever.

That’s why I was hoping to roll with T Hill & Gase for another year but apparently the locker room was more toxic than any of us knew or suspected.

That’s because the hype around him being this high priestess of QB whispering always felt like too much of a myth, you know, since said QB was a seasoned veteran called Peyton Manning.

GB may hire him. Ironic and convenient.

Could it be that Grier and Ross are looking for a stopgap coach who will be willing to coach the next 2-3 years knowing they are part of a rebuilding effort and won’t likely see themselves all the way through it?

I can see them hiring a low key closet interim coach if they have no confidence in the potential of any names available on the market right now.

Rizzi may be that guy. If he has real head coaching aspirations though, this could do more harm than good for him.

Who are we thinking in 2-3 years??
Belichick??
Well he would be pondering retirement so South Florida would be the place.

In that case it’s a done deal.

:haha

Just sayin. People like Cannata that actually have connections, as well as PFT Florio are all talking about it. We see smoke. Does that make him our next head coach? Duh... no. But there's something to it, I believe.
