Miami Dolphins rookie linebacker A.J. Edds had his torn anterior cruciate ligament repaired today by Dr. James Andrews, according to an NFL source with knowledge of the situation.
"The surgery was awesome," the source told National Football Post. "He should have a good rehab ahead of him."
The fourth-round draft pick from Iowa tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, but there wasn't other damage that would trigger an elongated rehabilitation period.
A standout linebacker in the Big Ten Conference at Iowa, Edds played in the Senior Bowl.
Edds was named second-team All-Big Ten Conference last season and was a three-time academic All-Big Ten selection.
Last season, he recorded 78 tackles and five interceptions and 4 1/2 tackles for losses.
As a junior, the 6-foot-4, 245-pounder was named honorable-mention All-Big Ten. He posted 59 tackles, one interception and two fumble recoveries.
The Dolphins traded up to acquire the Dallas Cowboys' pick to select Edds.
The Dolphins traded their fourth-round pick (No. 126) and their sixth-rounder (179th overall) to draft Edds 118th overall.
