Post Dolphins coach sees a deeper, more complete roster

DAVIE —
The Miami Dolphins have made a handful of roster moves that purged somewhat bloated salaries and discarded older veterans this week, allowing the team to get younger. Still, nobody inside the organization is prepared to call this week's roster churning a rebuilding maneuver.

In fact, Tony Sparano said he believes this is the most complete Dolphins roster he's had in his three seasons as coach.

"There's some depth on the defensive side of the ball. There's some depth in the offensive skill positions. There's some depth in the backfield," Sparano said.

Sparano also points out the Dolphins are "pretty solid" at quarterback with Chad Henne, Chad Pennington and Tyler Thigpen.

Procter returns

Sparano claims the Dolphins cut Jake Grove because they needed a versatile interior linemen more than a backup center for Joe Berger, who won the center competition.

The team turned to a familiar face to fill the void, re-signing Cory Procter,

Injury update

Starting left tackle Jake Long (left knee) participated in his second consecutive practice. ...

Starting inside linebacker Channing Crowder continues to be sidelined by a groin issue. The coaches are preparing Tim Dobbins to start in his place. …

Marshall is battling an ankle sprain, but practiced without limitations.

in some ways i see a complete roster
ie a no.1 wr , 2 starting rb`s
better ilb`s
maybe better 2ndary???

but how can he say that what they have done in last week or so has helped the depth on the o line and def line
another 500 season headed our way imo

have lost alot of confidence in this regime of late
take a while for me to get it back

w allens status , d martin release and parcells doing a runner so close to season starts
has made me wonder have these got what it takes to progress us??

If the Dolphins are better and deeper than what it may feel like right now then that is great. I guess the season will tell.

It seemed in the past the Phins were picking up other teams cuts to get better. Now it seems others are picking up the Phins cuts to get better.

Hopefully we did not cut to deep to try and get us better.

In some areas I think Miami is too deep...ie RB. They should've traded either Hilliard or Cobbs outside the division. They should've kept Will Allen Active, or at worst put him on the PUP. I think there's some areas where they still need some quality depth. Safety, CB, OG, TE
