The gates are open, and the games have begun. The crowds flock to the nearest HD feed on Sunday.
Miami @ Bills - 1:00 PM EST
Why are the bridge jumpers hopping off the edge so early? Pre-Season is no way to evaluate your team as a whole. The pre-season is to evaluate players at the bottom half of the 53-man roster. The defense is vanilla, the offense shows no scheme or timing. It's a warm-up, like playing catch with your buddies. The Miami Dolphins that we saw during the four long & boring pre-season games will not be the Miami Dolphins come tomorrow 9/11 @ Buffalo Bills.
Fans & the media have seem to forgotten how far we've come since our miserable 1-15 season. Not only was the roster completely revamped when Parcels took over but he has done nothing less than bring in prototypical NFL contributors. We've hit and missed on a few draft picks but that's the end results for every NFL team. We've cut ties with out losses in Patrick Turner & Pat White.
We've lost an aging diva in Jason Taylor(FA), Joey Porter(FA), Akin Ayodele(Cut), Gibril Wilson(Cut), Jason Ferguson(Retired), Will Allen(Injured Reserved), Phillip Merling(Injury), Ted Ginn(Traded).
The coaching staff has obviously given praises to Cam Wake who will undoubtedly bring pressure to the QB consistently. His limited play last season, and his career in the CFL shows he will use his speed and elusiveness off the edge to get in the QBs face.
Joey Porter played the same position as Jason Taylor and both of them on the field was a liability. The Dolphins have since signed Bobby Carpenter,(a cover LB who should help limit opposing TE) drafted Koa Misi, a college captain of his team and a player with upside as an overall SOLB. With the surprise of Ikaika Alama-Francis and his productivity and engine during Training Camp and Pre-Season I wouldn't be surprised to see Alama-Francis starting opposite of Cam Wake.
Gibril Wilson and Ayodele both probably the biggest reason opposing offenses attacked deep and caused havoc in the middle of the field. We've replaced Ayodele with arguably the best defensive player available this past off season behind Julius Peppers in Karlos Dansby. That's a HUGE upgrade and he should also give Crowder confidence to play off instinct like he did beside Zach Thomas. As the LB that had to make pre-snap reads and QB the Defense, Crowder's effectiveness declined. Gibril's lack of athleticism has lead him to be replaced by whoever of Culver, Clemons & Jones takes the opportunity and become a center-fielder this defense has lacked for many seasons. Young players who are hungry to get paid/recognized will produce better than a veteran who already feels he's proven his worth. Gibril was cut by Miami then by Denver after playing in a Super Bowl for the New York Giants.
Will Allen being placed on IR even though he feels he can return this season was a head scratcher. He could have been very productive in an area of question. Sean Smith seems to have taken a step back. Jason Allen who hasn't been able to find his way on the field even though he's been placed with the safeties & corner backs may have finally turned his leaf. I've always felt Jason Allen was capable of performing on the field come game day. We'll see this week @ Buffalo as he gets the starting nod over second-year Sean Smith. I feel Jason Allen is a ball hawk & a play maker. Hopefully Vontae Davis keeps progressing and Jason Allen could find himself as the nickle back later down the season once Sean Smith gets over his mental lapse. (I feel Sean Smith regression isn't talent. It's his mental state or how he's taking criticism and I fully expect him to be starting next to V. Davis in 2 or 3 weeks.).
We've drafted Odrick to replace Randy Starks who is replacing first suspended, later retired Jason Ferguson. He's not a sexy pick, but neither was Jake Long and he's been in the Pro Bowl for two years and counting. Odrick needs to be solid on a D-Line with a variety of different talents. Odrick will be solid as a 3-4 DE, 4-3 DT. Looking forward to how he performs on game days.
I'm looking forward to Mike Nolan and how he chooses to use the talent that he's had assembled for him to work with. It's not always about having the best players, it's about having the best team. I feel we have the proper players who are capable of doing the proper things as individuals and as a unit to be a fast paced, in your face, forcing turnovers type of defense.
Before LeBron James & Chris Bosh it was the name Brandon Marshall leaving South Florida fans panties wet. He's everything a team looks for in a true #1 receiver. He can stretch the field with his YAC. He can snag balls from the sky with his size. His route running is finesse, his blocking is immense and his enemy is the defense. He got his contract and gets to live & play in Miami, Florida. I truly feel the LEAGUE isn't ready for what's going to start formulating here this upcoming season. As Henne slowly becomes what he's excpected to become and we use Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams to relieve the pressure of the growing pains we'll see glimpses of Henne to Marshall as quite possibly one of the top 3 QB WR connections. This might not happen per stats this upcoming season but we'll slowly see how well R&R Express helps give Henne the confidence to make plays down the field when he is called upon to drop back and make decisions.
GET READY SOUTH FLORIDA. THIS IS THE BEGINNING OF A GREAT DECADE OF SPORTS FOR OUR REGION!
LET'S GO DOLPHINS!
