One of the journalists asked Henning why the Dolphins didn't go deep at all aside from the pass to Brandon Marshall, which Chad Henne underthrew and then Marshall dropped.

Henning quickly retorted that was not the only time the Dolphins tried to throw deep against Buffalo. The Dolphins apparently called two other deep passes but failure up front -- with either the tight end blocking or running back blocking -- the play resulted in a sack.

"We tried deeper passes but we got sacked twice," Henning said. "That’s part of it, too. You want to go downtown against good secondary like that, you better hold them up. We had an eight-man protection in there and went deep. We didn’t win and we got sacked. So you say to yourself, ‘How we going to win this game?’ … You get sacked with an eight-man protection and two men out, you better start checking your hole card. You try to win the game. And we were in control in the game at that time."

Henning admits the failure to connect on the deep pass to Brandon Marshall was costly.

Problem with more protection is, more people up front. This sheds a new light on the deep ball argument I've been making. Perhaps we simply can't do it because of protection... that's a huge problem.

Henning isn't new to this league. He'll figure out how to open up the deep game. Minnesota doesn't have as good a secondary as the Bills. They do have a much better pass rush, but I think we can fix that by double teaming Jared Allen all day long.
I expect we'll try to go down field much more frequently in this game than we did last week. I just hope we don't abandon the run. We're a running team, if we can tote the rock for 125+ yards, I think we win this game.

as i have been saying all along Dan Henning sucks. Buffalo never gave us any problems in regular protection. Why go to max protect? If the defense has a top secondary, then why are you going at them with a two man route? Dan Henning is simply the reason why we are ineffective.

And don't even start me on the sacks, because I have watched it over and over and over. I can tell you what happened each time.

Henning is brilliant with his change up. But you could be right. We're 3 years into his reign over the offense and the lack of big plays in the passing game is a recurring theme. You get the good with the bad. Henning drives me nuts when he forces the issue. IE...driving down inside the 40 very easily and then turning it over to the wildcat. Or, purposely calling running plays between the tackles with 8-9 guys on the LOS. The end-arounds inside the 15 also kill me.

Weiss's system in New England incorporated a lot of short quick strikes with a ground game...

Kinda west coastish right? Pass to run, rather than run to pass?

Since my intuition tells me where you're headed with this, I'll say passing to run works well even if it's short passing. See you wind up getting packages with lots of DBs in it rather than LBs, so when you you run, you run "deep".

Running to pass works well because you wind up with single coverage on your big WRs outside and can toss a few "deep" down the field.

Either will work, but if we're not going to do one the right way, might as well do the other. Not only that, but his O-Lines seem to perform above their talent level. Ours always seem to perform below their talent level (and especially their pay).

Since I have you hear, would like to see Weis over Henning Rich?

Just throw it to him a bit, we all know what marshall can do, and bess is a good clutch short yardage guy...
Toss it to Hartline and let him win the battle

I was eviscerated on another thread for suggesting they only tried to go downfield 2-3 times.

you can count me in too...

Not sure if its play calling or not, but the ball should head down field more...

I have heard soo many times about throwing it just because your chances of getting the flag thrown...
