Dolphins get TE Mickey Shuler on waivers from Minnesota
Dolphins get TE Mickey Shuler on waivers from Minnesota. Giants and Colts also put in claims.
6'4, 251, 4.6 guy, 7th round draft pick this past season. Made Minny's roster...they were probably trying to sneak him onto the practice squad...muahahaha!
Shuler is the son of ex-NFL TE Mickey Shuler Sr. and has a good understanding of the game thanks to his bloodlines. He is a big, powerful tight end that can overpower defenders to the ball when in a crowd and shows good strength as an in line blocker. He oozes off the line and lacks explosiveness when coming out of his breaks which makes it difficult to separate from defenders. He lacks much in the way of elusiveness when running after the catch. His best chance is as a No. 2 or 3 tight end that is used primarily as a second blocker.

Shuler has good speed and prototypical size and bulk. Releases clean and runs precise routes. Heady player that finds holes in zone coverage. Goes over the middle and makes difficult catches in traffic. Takes good blocking angles and finishes.
Has inconsistent hands and will drop catchable balls. Lacks explosiveness and is not much of a threat to gain extra yards after the catch. Struggles to get separation out of breaks and takes too long to reach top speed.
