Post Miami Dolphins coaches like taking conservative approach...
http://www.palmbeachpost.com/sports/dol ... 32206.html

Quote:
The coach's offensive coordinator follows a similar a similar philosophy. Henning's mantra is "touchdown-check down:" Look for the big play, but dump it off to the running back if the big play doesn't develop.

"I don't worry about how much (Henne) can hurt the other team. I worry about how much he can hurt my team," Henning said. "We can't win if we're throwing interceptions, turn the ball over, fumbling and doing all those, what Tony calls, 'minus plays.' We avoid them, we practice avoiding them, but we're always trying to hit the big play."

So in Henning's eyes Henne can only hurt us, not help us??? In his offensive scheme the quarterback is a liability??? With that kind of thinking no wonder our offense has been lackluster this season. Wow, Henning really needs to go!
:boo:

Really flawed strategy in my opinion. Shows on the football field.

Last year we got rid of the crappy DCoordinator... maybe now its time to cut ties with the crappy OCoordinator.

Dumb. You don't go out and get a Marshall so you can constantly check down on the very small chance that you actually decide to throw the ball.

Boy, a Mike Martz/Mike Nolan combination would have been sick eh?

Mike & Mike take over the world! Oh well...

Not at all. I won't be surprised when the Tunaless FO gets a new OC next year either.

Not surprised knowing how Henning thinks. Still, it's disappointing and he is going to have to change if this team it to maximize it potential.

Ok... This says that our Coaching Staff sees Henne as a liability. In my mind, the reason he is a liability because he is limited in his own decision making.

This is what is really crazy. Last year when we were behind in games, I'm sure that he had to think on his feet a little more and I felt that is when we really got to see his ability. I know that he made some mistakes but I also saw some really nice throws and felt like the more he got into a rhythm, the more he was comfortable.

But.... that was when we were behind. Now we have been playing with a lead and it seems like we have played not to LOSE rather than to play to WIN... Just my opinion, but like alot of you guys have been saying, we need to be able to open it up. Especially with the running game that we have. We aren't utilizing the weapons that we have to the best of our ability.

I sincerely hope that I'm wrong and we have just been holding back... Guess we will find out Sunday Night...

Oh, and aside from my comments... I am really excited for this game and extremely happy to be 2-0 so far.

I have been saying this for the past two years. The game has passed Henning by. He's focusing on the negatives instead of coaching the positives. If we don't get rid of him soon, he would cause serious damage in the development of Chad Henne.

Seriously, Pennington was better suited for this system 3 years ago. But, we have vastly improved this team since then. This team is now suited to Henne's abilities. We need another OC who can get us there. David Lee would be my first choice. He brought the Wildcat here let's see what he can do.

I don't think it has passed Henning by but I do think Miami will not win a big playoff game with him as the OC. They will probably get there because this is Dave Wannstedt boreball all over again. I will say just when you think you hate him, he pulls off a brilliant series of play calls. So lets hope he too can learn more as the season goes on.

I don't want Mike Martz anywhere near Miami. He's infamous for getting QBs sacked 50+ times a season.

I made my mind up last year that Henning hurts us more than he helps. But I have to wonder just how much Sparano weighs in on it all. I mean Henning is notorious for being conservative, even lost his job in Carolina after taking his team the distance then loosing in the end and most considered the loss his fault because of play calling...

David Lee could be his successor, but if Sparano wants this type of offense he may be happy with Hennings play calling..

I for one and going to remain skeptical, and I would imagine once we et in a few situations where we have to pass and score, Henne will be able to get the job done and show this staff he can be trusted..

He did that with the Rams. He has not had an offensive team the successfull since he left the Rams. SF fired him and he got the gig with Chicago because Lovie Smith is desperate.

The Bears have gotten off to a good start, so we will see if they can keep it up. And like Rich stated, Martz philosphies on offense tend to get QB hit ALOT.

Very disappointing comments. If they lack faith in Henne wouldn't it have made sense to seek out a better option? Personally I don't think that is the case but this can't be a long term offensive strategy. I can see being more conservative now to let the guy develop more, but they will be permanently mediocre if the game plan is RUN when you have a star receiver and a promising QB.

Before we get riled up about a David Lee succession, I'd like to see what his offensive philosophy is first.
