I know we will still have 7 games left after this game, but a loss on Sunday will pretty much write off the Dolphins 2010 season.

Dave Hyde wrote:
. Well, we're at our first "must win" intersection for the Dolphins this season. To have any hope at all for the playoffs, the Dolphins must beat Tennessee. It's not just their 4-4 record today. It's where other teams stand, including 5-3 Tennessee, a prime contender for one of the wild-card spots the Dolphins want.

Someone's going to win the AFC West. And let's assume Kansas City, San Diego and Oakland aren't good enough for a wild-card spot (yes, an assumption). That leaves five playoff spots open. The Dolphins have lost to four of those teams - New England, Pittsburgh, Baltimore and the New York Jets. Losing to the Titans would make it five (Indianapolis is the other team contending for those spots).

So losing to the Titans wouldn't just put the Dolphins at 4-5. It would mean it loses the prime tie-breaker with almost every contending team. So with a loss Sunday the Dolphins would have to run the table (good luck) to go 11-5 to have any hope.

I predicted the Dolphins would be 4-4 at this point and take advantage of an easier second-half schedule to eke into the playoffs. But I thought they'd beat either the Jets or Patriots and so have a chance on the tie-breakers. Nor did I see the Jets and Patriots at 6-2 at this point. Baltimore and Pittsburgh also are 6-2.

Tennessee and Indianapolis are 5-3. With a win Sunday, the Dolphins match records with Tennessee and stay alive for a wild-card spot. With a loss, forget it. The season's done. It's on to next year. It might be there anyhow.

No question. This is as must win as it gets.

If we lose this game, even if we win out, I don't think it'll be enough.

Yes this game is a must win, but I think the Baltimore game was just as important. Right now we are staring from the outside in even if we win the rest of our games. Losing against Tennessee would officially put the nail in the coffin.

So if we lose this game and win 7 straight after... was it really a must win?

Maybe. Depends how things play out within the division. But losing this game takes us out of the WildCard race.

So we could go 11-5 but be out of the Wildcard race by losing this game?

The way I see it, there will be 2 teams in the North (Pitt and Baltimore) who will win at least 11 games, (unless something drastic happens in the next few weeks). Indy will find a way, as usual, to win 11-12. That means that Tennessee, Miami, NY/NE will be fighting for the last WC spot.

If we lose to Tennessee, that propels them to 6-3, and with a tie breaker over us. They have a softer schedule in the 2nd half as well and I would be surprised to see them win less than 11.

I guess it's a matter of opinion, but losing this game wouldn't really be a good idea....lol

You seemed to state as if it was written in stone that if Miami loses this game, they have no shot at the Wildcard.

It is way too early to be making those types of statements.

All I know is that Miami would be 4-5, and 0-5 against the teams it will be fighting for Playoff spots with.

Tennessee would be 6-3, NY and NE at worst 6-3, at best 3 games ahead at 7-2....Oakland and KC would both be ahead of us, as would San Diego if they win, Indy, Houston, Pitt and Balt....And we'd have the tie breaker over a combined zero of them.

Miami needs this win.

Back to this. I'd like to hit Foxwoods Casino on Saturday. Please tell me which numbers will most likely come up on the roulette wheel so I can take a month off from work.

Wow. Do some of you have to argue every post? How about this...if we lose this game we are "most likely" not going to make the playoffs. Happy? We are 1-4 against playoff caliber teams as of right now.

Um... who got on who first in the thread?

Just treating people like they want to be treated based on how they choose to treat others...

I'm not talking about just this thread.

Seems like every time Mak posts something, your there to basically just degrade him and claim he doesn't watch the games.

He hasn't seen me in awhile and when he does, he tries to get on me but I don't let him. Rich sometimes takes this football stuff so seriously. LOL! The funny thing is how some posters kiss his a$$, it's so funny. Big shout out Rich!

No degrading here. It's all good. LOL! Different opinions are good for the boards. I'm just seeing different things about Henne than he is so I guess I don't watch football.

Maybe because the other day after the game instead of trying to have serious discussions he was simply ridiculing what those he disagreed with were saying.

And I'm not the one that claimed he doesn't watch the games...

Incidentally, I'm going to continue getting on you about getting facts straight until you finally do... because it seems like every other thing you post is just flat out false or you don't bother to fact check before hitting submit...

It's getting VERY old...

Ironic, isn't it? You scold this kid for getting facts straight and then you state an opinion about me ridiculing posters and not watching football. Legend in your own mind, bud.

Lol. At least you have a cause there.....I don't think I've "fact checked" more than half a dozen times.

Whatever. I'll let it go.

Your big boys I'm sure you can figure it out. :)

I'm going to ridicule your ability to read.

I didn't say you were ridiculing posters. I said you were ridiculing what they posted and you were. I.e. "But they have Ray Rice LOL".

Further evidence that you don't think before posting.

Yawn...back on topic. Yes, I would say this is a must win to keep our playoff chances alive. I highly doubt we run the table if we lose this Sunday. Possible, yes. Let's be real though.

Obviously you feel that the game manager approach is not acceptable

He's not a game manager, they don't throw picks in 6 straight games. I don't know if it's coaching or Henne. Have you ever seen Henne put someone in motion? Call an audible? I mean, yesterday the corner sold out the blitz and Henne should have moved Fasano over to pick up the block and he should have fired it to Bess. Instead he got hurried...

This shows how out of touch you are with what's going on. Henne isn't ALLOWED to audible. Everybody knows that. Except YOU.

And another thing, go back and see how many of those picks were actually HIS fault vs. WRs running bad routes, or just flukey tips or something.

I am pretty convinced you don't actually watch the games, you just read the box scores.

The point I was making earlier is that we are already staring from the outside in, after losing to the Jets, Pats, Steelers, and Ravens. Right now we 'likely' will need some help to get a WC spot. If we lose to the Titans, you can all but mathematically eliminate us from the playoffs; meaning it would take a miracle to make it.
Given what I've seen from this team though, I'd say we are far more likely to implode the rest of the way than we are to turn things around. I know some will be upset with me for being negative here, but I'm calling it like I see it. I look for a coaching change and possibly some very upset and unhappy players by years end.

I don't care how we make the playoffs, I just hope we do. 11-5 is a nice thought, but it's much easier said than done. Just look at what the Browns did against the Patriots, and if anyone bothered to watch the Jets vs. Lions you will know that the Lions are tough as well. If we overlook any of our opponents we will regret it. I just want us to go out and start playing up to our potential.

What everyone seems to forget is that we might not even get a chance to lose a tie breaker against Tenn, Balt, Pitt, Indy or whoever else. If we finish 3rd in the division, we don't even get considered for a WC until the #2 team in our division has been selected for a seed.

haha. No. But really 7 straight? 7-1 as it is ... is kind of a reach but 7-0 with road games against the Jets and Pats. That would be more of a miracle than the 08 season.
