Q. Does the fact you didn't throw deep much with Henne mean the offense is better suited for Chad Pennington?

DAN HENNING. "No, I don't think the reason we've not thrown as deep much with Henne is Henne as much as the defenses we're playing against. They're trying to stack up against Brandon and the few times we have thrown deep, we've only been successful a couple of times. Like last week we hit Brian Hartline on a pump down the sideline for about 35 yards. And we opened up the Vikings game and we got over the top. As soon as we got over the top on the Vikings, they're going to shut that off.

This guy is an idiot. He completely abandons any attempt to throw the ball down field over 15 yards. He doesn't even try. He seems handicapped by this conservative mentality. Why not go out and impose your will on the defense?

Exactly. You have to take several shots downfield. You have to use the 100 yards of field in front of you.

There are few things that I hate worse than a "politicians answer" like this.
Q. How would Henning rate his offense at the midpoint of the 2010 season?

A. "We haven't been as efficient as we'd like".
No sh*t, you don't say. Just say something like, "we have not been successful" or "we have failed in some areas" or " I suck". Please say something that makes the fans feel as if you get it! I don't believe he gets it.

So when the DB in the Ravens game never breaks out of his back pedal despite Marshall running a good route and jumps the underneath stuff ... that's NOT shutting it down. Teams play Miami with one idea in their heads on defense: Don't get beat by small ball. They know this team isn't going to throw deep and if they do it once, it won't be done twice. It took about 6 deep balls in the Jets Game before the Jets made adjustments. Very simply put, if you don't attack the deep field, they tighten the screws and then start jumping the underneath balls.
