A team source tells the South Florida Sun-Sentinel that the Dolphins are considering ending LT Jake Long's (shoulder) season. Long was outfitted with a harness for Thursday night's game, but was burned for three sacks by Julius Peppers. He'll have 10 days of rest before Week 12, but the tear in his labrum isn't going away without surgery. Should Long show any signs of struggle, the team would put him on injured reserve, ending his season. Lydon Murtha would be in line to take over at left tackle, marking a significant downgrade. Long is easily the best player on the Fins' roster.www.rotoworld.com
Jake Long (shoulder) has escalators in his contract that give him "several million dollars over a period of multiple seasons" if he were to make the Pro Bowl in 2010. This could become a big issue in the team's decision to shut the franchise tackle down, as voting doesn't end until December 20th. Likely to make the Pro Bowl roster, Long could play through the injury and earn the seven figure bonus. Beat writer Mike Berardino thinks there is a chance the Dolphins and Long come up with a monetary compromise that would allow the team to place Long on injured reserve if he struggles in Week 12.
