Some people were VERY upset when we traded away Satele a couple of seasons ago. "He was a second round pick" many said, he's played well while he's been here.

After today's game Omar Kelly got this gem from locker room:

Omar Kelly wrote:
When asked why Oak. was limited to less than 20 yards in running, Channing Crowder said "paul soliai was choking the hell out of Samson"

We sent Satele packing for one reason: he can't handle the big 3-4 NTs in our division (everyone in the AFC East runs it). Samson reminded him, and us, of that today.

Satele is a beast, I hope he keeps developing the way he is because he's well on his way to becoming a very good run stuffer.

I think you mean Soliai.

I think most people were thinking that Satele may have made a good guard. He was clearly overmatched at the center position even in Miami.

Yup, he was cheap, would have provided depth at all three interior positions, may have developed into a guard, and what did we get in return for him?

It would be nice to have a Satele with all the injuries along the offensive line.

Let's not forget that the Raiders were the #2 running team in the NFL before this game either.

Every player we let go had issues. Jake Grove was injury prone but having him come in as the 2nd string center would've been huge against Chicago. JT, Matt Roth at OLB opposite of Wake? JA as a special teams guy? The bottom line is this braintrust sends people packing that would help this team in the form of depth. I don't think anyone questions who they pick as starters.

While none of the centers have worked out as anticipated, I see nothing in Satele's game that warrants keeping. The only reason he starts in Oakland is because they don't have any other true centers on the roster. They tried to replace him with the Veldheer at one point, but Veldheer had to be moved back to tackle after they suffered an injury there.

I love Channing's quote about Soliai. Good to see that kid really blossoming.
