Post Dolphins silence Raiders' running attack limit Oakland
OAKLAND — Enough was enough.

After allowing their last four opponents to rush for an average of more than 130 yards per game, the Dolphin defense spent extra time last week preparing for an Oakland running game that entered Sunday's game ranked second in the league at 152.1 yards per game.

"We didn't want to give up 100 yards this time," safety Chris Clemons said. "We tried to make them one-dimensional."

The plan worked. Darren McFadden, the AFC's seventh-leading rusher, managed 2 yards on eight carries and the Raiders' running game just 16 overall as Miami rolled to a 33-17 victory at Oakland Coliseum.

"We're a good defense," insisted inside linebacker Channing Crowder. "We can play like this but we haven't been doing it. We've been inconsistent. Some games we do great and in the second half we let up.

"We played a full game this week and only gave up 10 points. Hopefully we'll climb, be one of the top defenses in the league, and just keep winning."

"You'd have thought Mike Nolan was up in their (coaches') box," he said. "Every time he run-blitzed they ran, and then we'd drop back into coverage and they'd pass. He beat the hell out of them today."

The Dolphins' previous four opponents had averaged 4 yards per carry. The Raiders averaged 1.3, ...

Leading the charge up front was nose tackle Paul Soliai, who outdueled ex-Dolphin center Samson Satele. But Crowder said the key to the unit's success was the play of outside linebackers Koa Misi and Cameron Wake, who refused to allow McFadden running room off the edge.
