Of course, right after I posted this article, there is now rumor Gruden will coach the Miami Hurricanes. I know its all speculation at this point, but it would be interesting to know if Ross would seriously entertain reaching out to Gruden.

I'd be surprised if Sparano is canned, but if he is I hope it;s for Gruden.
The great thing about Gruden is he's a quarterback guru. That's what this franchise needs.
He would either vault Henne's career or build up a future prospect.

I don't think Sparano gets the ax.

Jerry Jones will pay top $ to make John Gruden the next Dallas Cowboys head coach.

Gruden ran Dungie's Tampa team into the ground after that Super Bowl. I think with a very good GM, the guy has potential, but his resume in Tampa does concern me greatly.

Yeah, I'd like him as an offensive coordinator or something, but I don't want him putting players together. He had the old man crew in Oakland and then dismantled the Bucs.

After going to broadcasting , has any coach had success after being lured back to coaching?

Im thinking , JJ , Ditka both really did not. One can put up an argument for Parcells ( guess).
Millen as a GM was less than a bust.
Can anyone think of others. Just wondering as Gruden & Cowher are the hot names right now.

The Dolphins are not contending because of Tony Sparano. If any one should be on the hot seat it should be Dan Henning and Jeff Ireland. Jon Gruden would be a major step back for this franchise right now.

I read about a week or two ago that Gruden and Cowher are both expected to "keep their day jobs" for 2011 because of the complications with the CBA. They would have to accept jobs before the situation is cleared up.

It's more than just if the players strike or get locked out. They would have limited contact with their assistant coaches if there is a strike. Not a great way to start your tenure with a new club.

If you are a guy like Gruden or Cowher and have other options, the only way you jump back into coaching this year is if you find the perfect situation.

Reports are that Gruden is about to sign on with the Hurricanes...talk about a shocker. How in the world can the Canes afford that? They have some of the lowest funds in the ACC...

Teams with dumb penalties, poor decision making, and poor overall performance, often have poor coaching at the helm. I see some things in this Phins squad that speak of poor coaching (besides the crappy OC we have). Now given the fact that we are on a coaching carousel here in Miami, and this is Sparano's first HC gig, he can get a little slack from the fans and media. However, if things don't improve, it won't matter how many excuses he has, he will get the axe.

Looks like you're right.

Guess Gruden found a little self-respect. :ann0y:
