Post Five areas for the Miami Dolphins to work on
Quote:
1. Improve team speed, especially on offense.

...

Potential solutions: The Dolphins need to replace Ronnie Brown with a quicker running back, most likely through the draft; see if they can get fourth receiver Marlon Moore to showcase his speed; and try to obtain a speedy receiver
...

2. Get more out of Brandon Marshall. ...

More alarming is that his yards-after-the-catch numbers of have nosedived - from fourth among all receivers in 2009 (510 yards) to 44th in 2010 (196 yards). ...

Potential solutions: Marshall has been catching passes with his back to the defense. He needs to run routes that will enable him to catch the ball in stride, and he also needs a quarterback who throws more accurately.

"In Denver ... I caught a lot of slants and things like that, and did a pretty good job for the most part in finishing top five in yards after the catch," Marshall said.

3. Fix the 2-minute offense ...

Potential solutions: Institute a new sense of urgency, partly through a change in coordinator and quarterback (Chad Pennington knew how to get players to the line when the clock was ticking).

4. Use more draft picks on offense ...

Potential solutions: Outside of going for an inside linebacker or a defensive back, the Dolphins should focus their drafts pick on quarterback, tight end, running back (they need more than one) and the offensive line.

5. Fix the special teams ...

Potential solutions: The Dolphins put a Band-Aid on their early problems by simply promoting Rizzi after firing Bonamego. It might be time to look outside the organization for the next special teams coach.

Also, the Dolphins could be more judicious about in-season shuffling of the bottom of their roster; some of those second-tier players could become demons on special teams

What we need are impact players. We need the runningback that can bounce to the outside and rip off the 65 touchdown run. We need the wideout that can seperate from his man and beat the defense deep downfield or win the jumpball in the endzone. We need the quarterback that can drive us down the field when the game is on the line and lead us from behind. We need the elusive return man who can bust the game wide open with a kickoff or punt return for a touchdown. We need the defensive back who can turn a quarterback's bad throw into six points. We've got the foundation, we just need the impact players to put it all together.
Fixing the offensive line will help a lot of this, but we still must address our team's lack of explosiveness. Bringing in impact players is what our team needs in my opinion. That and bringing in new offensive and special teams coordinators.
