Hey, it looks like he can have Nate Jones' open spot.

Barry Jackson wrote:
Cornerback Patrick Surtain -- who gave guidance to Vontae Davis and Sean Smith during several chats last season -- said the Dolphins rejected his overtures to return as a player. ``I don't want to retire,'' Surtain, 33, said, insisting he's better than a lot of NFL cornerbacks. ``I could mold Vontae and Sean. Vontae is similar to me.''

As a player, I don't think so really. But if he wanted to come on as some kind of assistant coach, I'd be all for it. Obviously he said he still has what it takes but..... they all think that.

"If" Miami was looking for a veteran corner to add to the roster, then why not consider Patrick Surtain and bring him into camp?

Now that being said, if teams are staying away from him because the game has passed him by then thats the way it goes, but none of us really know that answer.

Generally speaking, bringing in an older veteran isnt really what this regime is about, so that is where my doubts would start from this ever happening.

I can understand Surtain wanting another shot because he loves to play the game and hopefully, he will get that shot somewhere again. I loved having him years ago when he was in his prime and although Sam Madison got alot of press, Surtain was my favorite corner.

I think we are trying to get younger and better. This would mean getting older and worse. I love Surtain, but let him come in as a coach (if he has coaching skills) and not a player.

He would be the 5th CB.....why not?

Because he can't play special teams?

Ahhh, Louis Oliver, one of my all-time favorite Dolphins! I will still never forget that game he had up in Buffalo with the three interceptions and that one returned on Jim Kelly for over 100 yards!

I say we sign Ronnie Lott. I'm sure Paul Warfield still has gas in the tank!

Dan the Man anybody? haha

Surtain would be a great mentor for these guys but giving up the roster spot for that is a bad idea.
