Chad Pennington to return to Miami for 2010
Quote: With free agency set to kick off in six hours, the Dolphins are expected to re-sign veteran quarterback Chad Pennington, a league source said.
A deal isn’t yet in place and Pennington is set to become a free agent at midnight, but “barring something crazy” he will be back in Miami, the source said.
Pennington, who turns 34 on June 26, continues to recover from season-ending right shoulder injury in Week 3 at San Diego.

Quote: Henne will remain the team’s starting quarterback.
But even coming off his third surgery to his throwing shoulder Pennington could provide the Dolphins a veteran backup and mentor to Henne.
In fact, if Pennington returns and is healthy, he might even give Henne a run for the starting job in training camp.
In his first year as an NFL starter, Henne threw more interceptions (eight) in the fourth quarter and overtime than Pennington threw during the entire 2008 playoff season (six). This is good news. I'm with ya PR. Henne, Thigpen and Pennington should be the Qb's in no particular order. ( I do want Henne to be the guy though....) White....well can you catch?

Re: Chad Pennington to return to Miami for 2010
Cut Pat a little bit of slack...he was a rookie and looks out of place as an NFL QB. However, he could still develop into a good Kordell Stewart type of player.
I am happy to hear that Pennington is coming back though. He is an awesome guy to have as a back up.

I'd hate to see Thigpen go. RotoWorld wrote: Pennington doesn't have a deal in place yet, but he's expected to return to Miami "barring something crazy." Even considering Pennington's strong relationship with the Dolphins' front office, it's surprising that they would bring him back with Pat White and Tyler Thigpen also under contract. The obvious inference is that Thigpen will be available in trade. http://www.rotoworld.com/content/player ... _teams=MIA

Very happy to have Pennington back. He provides a quality backup at QB and has been very instrumental in the development of Chad Henne.
I do think this means Tyler Thigpen will be up for trade, so we will see how it plays out.

Love having Penny on our team. Great person, player, & teacher. I did hear tho that Arizona had their eye on him because they are still unsure about Leinart. http://twitter.com/MikeBerardino/status/9737200142Think this a trading tactic?

No. Chad and his family love being in Miami and if the Dolphins are bringing him back, then the doctor must believe his shoulder is well enough to return and Chad has shown that his sholuder is strong enough to return.
Bill Parcells is a big fan of Chad as well along with the coaching staff.

He is a perfect backup...he can win you games when and if Henne goes down. Sure, maybe Pennington can too, but for maybe one more year, maybe even not at all if his shoulder gives again. Thigpen can do it for years to come... If Miami trades Thigpen I will be upset.

I'm with iowa.
Unless it is a second day pick, I would keep Thigpen as Henne's future back-up.

Re: Chad Pennington to return to Miami for 2010
I also agree with the last 2 posts. Pennington is a great guy , not selfish , team player ... a throw back if you will. But put all the rah rah stuff aside if somehow lets say the Dolphins are in thing thing week 10 or so & Henne gets injured. Bringing in Thigpen at least still gives you a guy that can carry you & a guy that defenses will still have to game plan for & respect all aspects of his game. Bring in Pennington , you get vanilla again , 7 yard out patterns moving the chains between the 20's & settling for a field goal at best.

Re: Chad Pennington to return to Miami for 2010
Pennington led us to the most prolific turn around in NFL history, posting the second best QB rating behind peyton manning....i like my chances with penny, especially since we have no WRs currently that can stretch the field

Re: Chad Pennington to return to Miami for 2010
Pennington is asking for a no trade clause and has delayed talks. Article below also mentions he would be the #3 behind Henne and Thigpen. Pat White's role for 2010 is unclear. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4967395
