In the weeks since Al Groh was fired as head coach at Virginia, there's been widespread speculation that he'd return to the NFL, possibly in Miami or New England.
But that apparently won't be happening.
Groh will reportedly become the defensive coordinator at Georgia Tech. It's his first job as a college assistant since he was the offensive coordinator at South Carolina in 1998. With reports that we won;t be signing Butler niether, where does this leave the phins?

Re: PFT: Al Groh Not Returning to NFL I am ok with this as I wasn't really on the Al Groh bandwagon. I like what Butler has done w/ the Pittsburgh linebackers. Would be nice if he gets hired as I am not too thrilled should we have to move onto our 4th, 5th or 6th option at the position. Then again I lost count and Butler may be our 4th option

What makes this even more painful is the knowledge that these years coincided with Marino's prime. The Dolphins consistently put up big numbers. Unfortunately, so did every team they played. It's nauseating to think of how far the Dolphins might have been able to go with even an average defense.
