Vernon Carey coming out of retirement
The Dolphins didn't show any interest in him last year. It is doubtful we even take a look at him. Quote: Former Fins OL Carey coming out of retirement Jan. 31, 2013 - 3:10 PM ET
Former Dolphins G/T Vernon Carey announced that he's coming out of retirement.
Carey, 32 in July, retired in August after the Dolphins failed to re-sign him. He then went on to accept a co-offensive line coach position at a Miami area high school. The Jets reportedly showed interest in Carey last offseason, but he'll likely struggle to find work this summer. http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/50656332/ ... ayer_news/

Re: Vernon Carey coming out of retirement
You sign this guy, you're gonna have to pay him at least the veteran minimum of $720,000 because he put in eight years service time. Here's what that $720,000 will get you:
1. A guy who has had trouble keeping his weight down and is an inconsistent blocker in both the running and passing game.
2. A guy who was paid Pro Bowl money at one point, but never made the Pro Bowl.
3. A guy who was let go by his team at the end of 2011. No one picked him up, so he sat at home and who knows what kind of shape he is in now.
4. A guy who is 32 years old, an age where most players at his position begin to break down, although his breaking down was clearly noticeable in 2011.
Bottom line: I wouldn't pay $7.20 for Vernon Carey.

ATTN NBCSPORTS:
Retirement is what happens when you have had a long career, you were somewhat successful, saved some money and are ready to relax.
Unemployed is when nobody will hire you.
This ends today's class, any questions?

Bottom line: I wouldn't pay $7.20 for Vernon Carey. If you sign him for the vet minimum, the league picks up the difference between the vet minimum and rookie minimum. He doesn't even cost more than the rookie wage in cap dollars. And point #2 doesn't mean anything to anyone except a disgruntled fan. I doubt Carey will find any takers, but he will be cheap to whomever signs him.
