Who will the Miami Dolphins select with the No. 12 pick in the 2010 draft? Just like Bill Parcells and rest of the Trifecta, I have no idea at this point

...

But it’s not too early to put together a short list of suspects

...

Why Dan William will be drafted No. 12 by the Dolphins

1. Have you seen his backside ... It helps them anchor.
2. Nose tackle isn’t a play-play need for the Dolphins. It’s a serious one!
3. Williams was one of the few consistently impressive defensive players on the Senior Bowl south squad that Tony Sparano and his staff coached

Why Not

1. Williams is a one-year wonder
2. He lacks upper body strength
3. This is the best defensive tackle draft in a decade, and there is plenty a decent amount of nose tackle prospects to pick from

I keep reading the comment about Williams being a one year wonder, but his numbers are pretty consistent for the most part with the exception of the spike in tackles in 2009.

2007
40 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks

2008
48 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks

2009
70 tackles, 9.0 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks.

I don't think he is strong enough to play nose right away.

You would have liked to seen more than 27 reps at 225 lbs, but some guys do a better job of translating there strength to the football field. I think he is strong enough to anchor and he certainly has the base.

Jeff Owens is a DT that Miami is looking at for the NT position, and he has a max bench of 535 lbs and did 44 reps at 225 lbs, but right now I would take Dan over Jeff as Dan was far more productive going against the same SEC competition.

I don't care if they draft a tackle in the first, second, or maybe even third, but make no mistake, IT IS A NEED!!! We know Fergy won't be back until week 9 (bright side is that he should be plenty rested and healthy for a playoff push), and Solai just doesn't have what it takes to be our number one DT/NT. We need someone who is going to come in and be an immediate upgrade over Solai.

Tru Dat Phin. Moley, Jeff Owens is projected to be a 4th, 5th round pick as you stated, and his stock is rising because of his Pro Day and combine performance.

He tore his ACL 1st game of the 2008 season, so teams will obviously check his knee. His arm length is 32 3/4, which I think may be fine, but I am not sure. That could be cutting it close.

Here is cbssportsline write up on Jeff.

Analysis
Pass rush: Pass-rush technique is still developing. Has marginal burst off the snap and good effort to push the pocket, but lacks the lateral agility or closing speed to threaten the passer on a consistent basis. Flashes the initial quickness to pressure the quarterback, but doesn't re-direct well and is only a marginal athlete.

Run defense: Short and wide-bodied in the middle. Marginal initial quickness off the snap. Good team defender who understands his role to control a gap. Violent hands to control the action, but doesn't have the athleticism to chase down ballcarriers. Can hold up at the point of attack -- even the flashes the ability to beat the double-team -- but too often loses the leverage battle. Good effort in pursuit when he's fresh, but was in a deep rotation and ran short of energy quickly.

Explosion: Only marginal initial burst off the snap, but shows explosive upper-body strength to knock offensive linemen into the pocket. Only adequate lateral agility or straight-line speed in pursuit. Flashes some pop as a hitter, but is too inconsistent in this area.

Strength: Excellent natural upper-body strength. Boasts a 535-pound bench press. Good strength to hold up at the point, despite regular double-team blocking. When he plays with good pad level, his lower-body strength is enough to anchor against the double-team.

Tackling: Is a strong drag-down tackler with the strength to slip off blocks and catch backs as they run past. Flashes some explosiveness as a hitter when given space to gain momentum.

Intangibles: Team leader and representative for Georgia at the preseason SEC Media Day. One of 106 student-athletes nominated for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, which honors college football players who make outstanding contributions in the areas of volunteerism and civic involvement. Missed all but the first game of the 2008 season due to a torn ACL.

NFL Comparison: John McCargo, Bills

I think Troup could be had in the 4th. But, we'll see.

I like Terrell Troup a little more than Cam Thomas. It always bothers me when a guy has not been that productive in college, but then comes out for the Senior Bowl and just blows up.

Were was that same effort and intensity while at UNC. I like Terrell consistency.

Why Not... I think with the talent we have at (db) now (lb) a (dt) this early is not needed we should look at (wr) Dez B or (fs) Taylor M both are big fast and most of all :pumpiron:

A nose tackle can be found anywhere in this draft. A rare exception

I've noticed you love Taylor Mays.

Don't. To put it simply: He's terrible.

He's freakishly big and fast, no doubt....but he is just a bad safety. Maybe if we were running a 43, and he could convert to the sam OLB position, but even then....
