 Re: Dolphins release Karlos Dansby
We called it.
Dansby's cap number was huge and getting huger. In fact, he took up the most cap space on the roster with an $8.6 million cap number.

Yes. Opens up a good bit of cap room and the Dolphins get younger.

WR is a more valuable position nowadays than LB and Boldin is a better player at his position than Dansby at his. Also, Boldin's cap number is about $2 million smaller.

Dansby doesn't get cut if you didn't land Ellerbe.

Does that allow Miami to up its offer to Long a little more?

I don't know much about Ellerbe to say the move was an upgrade or not? It is a move to get younger if nothing else....

If you watched Hard Knocks, you knew Dansby wasn't falling in line with what Philbin is doing. I'm all about Philbin bringing back the discipline and character.

You know, that's a great point. He also opened his mouth during the season questioning Philbin and what not while playing at a subpar level.

Because he wasn't playing up to the level of his contract, so nobody would have traded for him. He wouldn't have garnered that high of a pick anyway.

 Re: Dolphins release Karlos Dansby
He was gone the second he formed that veteran counsel with Long and Bush. Those three stood up to Philbin after he cut Chad Johnson. I said back then that these guys would no longer be around. The cap hit only made cutting him easier for Philbin. Make no mistake about it. Philbin is sending a message that this is his team. This isn't your players coach Tony Sparano team anymore. Philbin is sending all of the Sparano era guys packing and bringing in his boys, or those who have bought in.

Probably won't be a player's counsel this year... Maybe just maybe they will be more focused on football.

 Re: Dolphins release Karlos Dansby
I gotta think Dansby and Burnett draw alot of interest from the Giants, Bengals, Ravens, Raiders and Lions. They are big upgrades for certain teams.
Hopefully the Pats don't go sifting through our trash again.

Dansby and Burnett were good players. Right, but they were going to cost a combine $20 million against the cap next year. This was a pre-emptive strike to address potential cap issues in the future without having a drop off in play.

They were probably expecting Ellerbe to resign with the Ravens. What would have happened if they traded Dansby and Ellerbe resigned? You'd have no MLB.

I think in this case it's a timing thing.. sitting on a player for a few days you hope you can trade does not help you in what your going after right now... ya we may have lost a 7th round pick for him but we freed up that cap space NOW.. Irland is focused and on fire right now.. whatever it takes to keep him rolling .. lol
