That takes them out of the mix for Dee Milliner. If he can just get past the Lions at 5, there's a reasonable chance we can get him.

I'm not saying it's impossible but I just doubt we pick one so high after spending $ on a FA.

No, I misread your post. If we don't sign him, I wouldn't be surprised if we go tight end at 12. The way the rookie scale works, it has shifted the paradigm when it comes to draft position. Teams are willing to reach more because they will have to invest less.

 Re: Dustin Keller visiting Miami
I wanted Jared Cook and would've signed him to the long term deal. Keller is fairly young, but I am not too sure how he will translate to this offense and a hated division rival. We all know money talks, but I wouldn't sign him for more than a short-term, 2 year deal. If he impresses, he gets a raise and an extension. Simple. I just do not trust him at the moment for a long term contract.

 Re: Dustin Keller visiting Miami
The Jared Cook contract was huge. Makes sense why Miami didn't get him.
Keller would be a very nice addition and honestly, I don't know that it stops Miami from still drafting a guy early (Ertz, Escobar) to be the tall, red zone jump ball guy. I know I've consistently said they will sign someone and see what they have in Clay/Egnew, but with the way they are reshaping this team I can't help but think more bold moves are coming.

I hope we go after a LT
I have flashbacks to the Bears...
All them weapons but no time to throw the ball...
pretty sure jay cutlers mind is 1/2 mush right now...
Protect the QB! give him some time to hit the new weapons....
just saying the o-line and the TE spot are prob the biggest needs right now..

Well said Rich. Keller is in that 4.5 range perhaps a tick slower than Cook, but not much at all and this guy as you pointed out has been MORE productive during his tenure with the Jets. Keller is a thorn in your side on offense and I hope we get him AND I hope Miami considers one of the blue chip taller tight ends in the draft.

On second thought, even if we signed Keller, I wouldn't be shocked if the Dolphins go tight end. Think about what an offense with Hartline, Wallace, Bess, Keller and Eifert could do for Tannehill. You'd have a lot of flexibility lining up in two tight end sets or three wide or four wide and splitting Keller out. It would be unorthodox, but intriguing.

 Re: Dustin Keller visiting Miami
Ohh, I am a broken record on wanting Eifert. To me whether Miami went after Eifert or even Tavon Austin at pick 12, if they start and become an impact player it will still IMO, be worth them getting either and on the other hand if an offensive lineman stud was available or shut down corner, I could see that as well.

I know I'm going to get slammed for saying this, but Egnew and Clay are still on the roster. Do you think the Dolphins pickup a veteran starting tight end and give these guys another year to develop. Not saying we don't draft a TE, but it may not come until Day 2.

 Re: Dustin Keller visiting Miami
These Mock Drafts are all over the place. I've seen the Mocks you have, but they don't take into account some teams like the Cardinals, Bills ..........maybe even the Raiders or Jets will reach for a QB. That means there should be a good value pick at 12 for the O-line.

Clay > Egnew
I like the way Clay can line up at FB, HB, and TE.
Speaking of FB, I wonder what J. Lane is up too. I expected more from him.

I've been saying the same thing for a while but with the thought that Miami would have Fasano back. I think they are given the chance to prove themselves and one sticks. I have a hard time imagining its Egnew. He has the size you want as a Red Zone target but its pointless if he can't learn the offense or provide at least minimal blocking skills. I think Miami signs Keller, keeps Clay and drafts a tall target...maybe what Rich suggested with Eifert or possibly sitting back and taking Escobar/Ertz in the 2nd or 3rd.

 Re: Dustin Keller visiting Miami
What if we signed Keller, and then offered a contract to Victor Cruz (used our 1st on another receiver)? What kind of deal do you think would wrestle Cruz away from the Giants? The Giants are obviously hurting for CAP space. Maybe we could get Cruz for a little bit more than we spent on Hartline? Or do you guys think the Giants would find a way to match that?

I think that is too much money for the receiver position. The Giants are letting him shop around but I just heard Ian Rappaport say Cruz, Welker and Amendola are finding out the hard way that no one is paying for a slot guy. Too many cheap options in the draft.

 Re: Dustin Keller visiting Miami
I wonder if Keller's demands are too high and that is why he hasn't signed yet? One thing that bothers me about him is he will be 29 when the season starts. Not old by any stretch but don't most TEs start breaking down around now?
He has to be looking at Fasano getting 4 years/16 million and Bennett getting 4 years/20 million, and demanding something in that realm.
Right now Miami still has Myers, the draft and a potential Finley cut as leverage. Fred Davis is still out there too.

If Jennings resigns tonight it could mean that Finley is squeezed out. I sure hope we're wrong in thinking that our FO is taking that chance. I don't think Finley is that special. He drops a lot of big ones.

I would assume he will need to spend a day in the facility doing workouts and a physical to be sure he is 100% or at least able to be by camp before making an offer.. Bottom line is when FA's come to town you have them, so its a choice whether or not you let them leave...
