I will say we will be hearing his name as soon as this happens.

Quote:
The Falcons are about to have a new look on the right side of their offensive line.

Right tackle Tyson Clabo is about to get a pink slip from the Falcons, according to a tweet from his agent Chad Speck. Clabo has been a starter for the Falcons since joining the team in 2006, making 101 starts over seven years with the team. He’s started every game over the last five years and was a Pro Bowl selection in 2010.

That resume makes it hard to believe this is a performance-related move from the Falcons. It’s more likely part of an effort to clear cap space to put toward a contract extension for quarterback Matt Ryan. Until Clabo is officially cut loose, the Falcons have just $2.4 million in cap space at their disposal and it would seem they feel they need more. They’ll get it by excising Clabo’s $4.5 million base salary from the rolls, although it opens up a big hole on the line.

Clabo shouldn’t suffer from a lack of suitors on the open market, where he’ll join Andre Smith as the most appealing right tackles available. Teams like the Dolphins, Eagles, Texans and Cardinals have been linked with other available tackles this offseason and you’d imagine some or all of them will want a look at Clabo.

Falcons will release Tyson Clabo

You know I'm going to jump in with some metrics...

2012

Ranked 14th overall for tackles regardless of side.

Ranked 23rd in pass protection. Ranked 21st in run blocking.

This out of 80 tackles.

2011

Ranked 2nd overall for tackles regardless of side.

Ranked 5th in pass protection. Ranked 13th in run blocking.

This out of 76 tackles.

2010

Ranked 10th overall for tackles regardless of side.

Ranked 8th in pass protection. Ranked 27th in run blocking.

This out of 78 tackles.

Biggest concern would be his age, he's 31.

But he is consistent and plays at a high level.

He's probably better than Eric Winston and if we could bring him in, it would give the Dolphins that much more flexibility in the draft.

He's not necessarily a scheme fit. More of a traditional power blocking lineman.

Then again so is Incognito.

It is my understanding that last year the Falcons ran a hybrid of both, man and zone blocking.

I hope that one of these guys (Winston or Clabo) is picked up before the draft. Along with Albert, Clabo's availability may actually push Winston into accepting less than he had hoped for. Supply and demand, and all that. I have been hoping we sign Winston all along; even if on a 1 year deal. Then, you don't feel as compelled to take a OT that can play right away with one of your first 2 picks.

To think he was originally an UDFA. Why can't Miami ever find these players on the OL that develop into PBers? Of course 3 other teams cut him & the Broncos did twice.
