-WR: Mike Wallace

Comment: Upgrade.

--WR: Brandon Gibson

Comment: Even.

-WR: Brian Hartline ... This is the No. 2 WR in the three-receiver formation. Comment: Upgrade.

--LT: Jonathan Martin ... Comment: Decline

...

--RT: Tyson Clabo ... Comment: Upgrade ...

--TE: Dustin Keller ... Comment: Upgrade. ... passing game. ...

--RB: Lamar Miller ... Comment: Decline. ...

DEFENSE

--DE: Dion Jordan ... Comment: Upgrade ...

--MLB: Dannell Ellerbe ... Comment: Even ...

--WLB: Philip Wheeler ... Comment: Even. ...

--CB: Brent Grimes ... Comment: Decline ...

--CB: Jamar Taylor ... Previous starter: Nolan Carroll. ... Comment: Even

Overall, among 22 positions the tally is 13 positions that are upgrades from last season, six positions that are even, and three positions that decline.

...

Obviously, it’s tough to say right now whether this will be the actual starting lineup on the first day of training camp.

But you can safely say the Dolphins should be better than last year, and at the very least that’s a step in the right direction.

When a player is the same last year and this year, how is it that they are an upgrade and not even?

Also, Smith > Grimes?

I thought the same thing.

Maybe you can say that for a guy like Tannehill who is still developing, but there are too many people listed as upgrades over themselves.

Guys who were pro-bowlers are listed as upgrades over themselves??
Guys are upgrades over themselves just because they are in the last year of their contract??

Yes, lets determine upgrades and declines on May 7th before the entire team has hit the field.

Was Vernon Gholston considered an upgrade in 08 for the Jets pass rush? How about Mario Williams last year for the Bills?

There is nothing wrong with speculating.

Enjoy it all you want, in my opinion its a dumb article at this point. If you want to write it in July with some speculation then fine, at least you've been able to watch the guys practice for a bit. Right now we have no idea how new guys will adjust to the schemes or if guys like Martin and Miller have put in the necessary work to be as good or better than their predecessors. Calling them declines is beyond premature based on the amount of opportunity they've been given.

Last year at this time people were saying Tannehill needed at least a year on the bench to learn. By July you heard a lot of rumblings that he could win the starting job. On the flip side all of the hope we had that Egnew might be this new pass catching seam threat just blew up in everyone's face after a week or two of practice.

It's a dumb article, but not because it's speculating. It's a dumb article because Chris Perkins sucks at his job apparently.

Ahhh, another gues...er ah....prediction by Omark....

Grimes, healthy is definitely an upgrade over SS24. No question in anyone's mind. The only reason I can see Grimes grading lower is that coming back from an Achilles is tough, particularly for that position. In pure ability...no question at all...

Is Keller really an upgrade ?? To the passing game, yeah but he's not the blocker that Fasano was. Adjustments will have to be made to incorporate Keller and Sims into the O....

Lastly, I think Marshall is being overlooked. Taylor might not be an upgrade to Carroll (although even that is a question), but Marshall is an upgrade to either of those guys...

But, Omar and Perkins sell hits and newspapers not reliable reporting...

I have to disagree with the comments about the secondary. If Grimes is healthy, and plays like the 2009-2010 Grimes, he's an upgrade over Smith. Not just a little one either. Smith is a good corner, but I'm not too concerned about his departure if Grimes is healthy. Grimes is more than capable of filling in for a season until we can draft someone else next year.
Nolan Carroll is a very mediocre player. I think Taylor has a pretty good shot of being better than Carroll.

Ellerbe I think is going to be a definite upgrade over Dansby. I think that Martin will be about even. If Clabo is even that is a success. And I think that Miller is going to surprise a lot of people and be even or an upgrade.

Would like to see a guy like Charles Woodson come in for cheap as a mentor.
Seems like a good fit.
