Post Dolphins add WR-Courtney Gardner
scouts were high on this guy all year.
I like some of the receiver prospects Philbin and Ireland are bringin in to compete.

Quote:
DAVIE – The Dolphins made two roster moves Tuesday when they signed wide receiver Courtney Gardner and waived wide receiver Terrell Sinkfield.

Gardner (6-3, 215), an undrafted rookie from Sierra (Calif.) College, agreed to terms with San Diego but never joined the team. Earlier this month Gardner and the Chargers mutually agreed to part ways so Gardner could take care of some "personal matters," according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Quote:
Nothing is certain, though JUCO sensation Courtney Gardner may complete a lengthy and bumpy route to Norman.
To say Gardner is a play-maker is quite an understatement. True, there is a big difference between tradition-rich Oklahoma and Sierra (Calif.) College where he starred last season. What cannot be doubted is Gardner’s size (6-3, 224) and his sheer athletic ability on the football field and on the oval. The most important hurdle to climb is in the classroom and Gardner, who signed with the Sooners on Feb. 1, seems on his way to doing that. Fri, Mar 2, 2012 04:22:00 PM

Draft insider Tony Pauline is hearing junior college WR product Courtney Gardner's name is making rounds in the NFL scouting community.
Gardner just finished his time at Sierra College and was expected to attend Oklahoma in the fall, but academic issues forced him to the NFL instead. The big bodied (6'3/215) is extremely smooth on his cuts after the catch and physical skills appear to have scouts intrigued. He recorded a 10.7 second 100 meter run in the last few years.

Here is the issue with him

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... -chargers/

Quote:
Personal matters have held Gardner back throughout his football career. Out of high school he originally committed to Nevada but couldn’t qualify academically. He then became a junior college All-American at Sierra College, and he was highly sought after by major football programs across the country, but although he committed at various times to both Oklahoma and LSU, he never attended either school. Gardner has been arrested twice in his hometown of Reno, Nevada, once for possession of alcohol by a minor and once for obstructing a police officer.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Gardner definitely has the athletic ability to be an NFL wide receiver, but it’s highly questionable whether he’ll ever get his head on straight enough to play in the NFL.

If these young men would only realize the dream that they can have that is in front of them. Let's hope this kid wakes up in time to experience the NFL and appreciate his God given talents. Too many of these stories out there and that is a darn shame.

As much as I detest Jimmy Johnson for what he did to this team, his quote on his first day of rookie minicamp in 1996 is one that I'll always love. This was to a bunch of rookies who weren't used to running in a sauna and were cramping:

"Listen guys, this isn't college, it's a job. You get to training camp, your butt has cramps, I'll cut you in a nanosecond. You don't have four year scholarships anymore. This is a day to day thing here. I could revoke your scholarships tomorrow if I wanted to."

Between Armon Binns, Jeff Fuller, Brian Tyms, Chad Bumphis, Jasper Collins, and now this Courtney Gardner kid, there should be plent of competition for the 5th receiver spot and practice squad.
